About Banyan Treatment Center Rochester Hills in Michigan

Banyan Treatment Center Michigan at Rochester Hills is designed for people who need more support than advice, willpower, or a short break from substances can provide. The facility focuses on substance use treatment, including care for alcohol, opioids, fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription drugs, and other substance use concerns.

Substance use disorder can affect judgment, physical health, relationships, and the ability to keep daily life stable. A clinical overview from Johns Hopkins Medicine explains that treatment may involve different settings and services depending on the person’s needs. That is why the first step is not simply choosing a program name. It is understanding what level of structure and support the person needs right now.

The Rochester Hills facility gives patients in Oakland County a local treatment option with access to both withdrawal stabilization and residential care. For families in Rochester Hills, Troy, Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Sterling Heights, and the broader Detroit area, this location can offer a clearer path when substance use has become too difficult to manage at home.

The setting is intended for people who need time away from everyday triggers and closer clinical support during early recovery. While each plan is individualized, patients can expect treatment to focus on safety, structure, accountability, therapy, recovery education, relapse-prevention planning, and preparation for continued care after discharge.

Personalized Addiction  Treatment for Every Person, Every Path

Recovery looks different for everyone. We meet you where you are.

Treatment is not only about stopping use for a short period of time. It is also about understanding what keeps the cycle going. Patients may work on triggers, cravings, communication, stress, family dynamics, grief, trauma-related concerns, or routines that make relapse more likely.

Quality addiction care should also connect people to next steps. The Shatterproof National Principles of Care highlight personalized plans, coordinated care, evidence-based treatment, and ongoing disease management. In practical terms, this means discharge planning should start before the person leaves treatment, not after they return to the same environment.

This place saved my life. :) I met so many wonderful people, and wonderful staff members. Some standouts were Nurse Laura, my therapist Randy, NP Shannon, and BHT Jason and Adrian. But every staff member was so kind and caring. It’s a very safe and welcoming place to be. That being said, there is room for improvement. The rooms are filthy, and some of the common areas are too. Peers started taking it upon themselves to clean their own bathrooms and some of the common areas. My husband’s jacket somehow got lost in the laundry process, and I never got it back. Some of my peers had some of their things lost as well. Overall, I’m happy that I went. It really did save my life. And I do recommend it. Just know going in that it’s not exactly a well-oiled-machine as far as staffing goes, and expect dirty rooms and common areas.

The short version is Baynan saved my life but that wouldn’t give them the praise they deserve. The therapist Kevin and Randy lead great groups and individual sessions that help my to understand why used and gave me the tools to remain sober. My case manager Heather made my stay there worry free and set up a wonderful after care program. The meals were excellent thanks to the chef Todd. All the techs were caring and helpful which created an environment that made the clients become family. Banyan showed me how to have sober fun. The director Sylis door was always open and he did anything in his power to create amenities to make my stay there as extremely pleasant. Brie and Kayla created events that gave us sober fun. Thank you Baynan from the bottom of my heart. P.S. Trish the kitchen aid is awesome

The staff is easygoing, they actually feel like family rather than leaders. They go out of their way for you to meet your expectations and needs, but keep in mind, they’re human and they have a lot on their plates, so sometimes you have to remind them of your requests. There’s a lot of freedom, they’re not breathing down your backs at all times as long as you don’t make it difficult for them. The good is great, home cooked meals and you will never go hungry. There’s always food available around the clock. You have access to outdoors as long as you stay within range. There’s TV’s in all the rooms, basketball courts, a work out gym, a beautiful lake to sit by and meditate, designated smoke area where you can smoke or vape at anytime besides group times. The place is air conditioned, nurses are always onsite, daily AA meetings where you can practice staying sober for the real world. Family visitation, 2 hours of phone time daily, caseworkers that will meet with you weekly and their doors are always open if you need help dealing with the outside world regarding appointments with meetings, doctors appointments, etc. therapists that you can talk to at any given time where you feel down or for whatever reason reason. The group times are educational and fun, they really don’t feel like assignments. You can order things through Amazon as long as they’re appropriate. You can order anything from toothpaste to Lego sets. It’s a great place to recover. I highly recommend it.

My daughter is currently a resident at the Gilman facility and she is receiving excellent treatment. There is one employee named Colton who went above and beyond to get her some books and markers I sent through Amazon. Coloring really puts her mind at ease and they delivered them to a different part of this very large facility. But he kept looking until he found them. It's small things like that that make a place like a rehab facility be more than just a treatment center. The residents are treated with decency and respect. I am appreciative to this employee for assisting my daughter.

Wesley Morris is my Case Worker. He has made my first experience in recovery as easy as imaginable. I'm extremely overwhelmed being at Banyan for the first. Wes has made time for me every time I've requested his assistance. I can relate to Wes and that makes a huge difference.

Substance Use and Mental Health in Michigan & the Region

Statewide Overview

Across Michigan, substance use continues to affect families in every region. Fentanyl and other opioids are driving overdose risk: nearly 3,000 Michigan residents died of drug overdoses in 2022, the majority involving opioids, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Alcohol use disorder also remains a major concern and often overlaps with depression and anxiety. More than 20 million U.S. adults live with both a mental illness and a substance use disorder, per SAMHSA.

Even when someone is “functioning” on the outside, addiction can escalate quickly. Residential treatment is often the turning point because it provides separation from access, structure during early recovery, and daily clinical care that’s hard to replicate in outpatient settings.

Oakland County & Regional Overview

In rural areas, the barriers to care can be just as serious as the symptoms themselves. Much of rural Illinois is federally designated as a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area by HRSA, meaning there are too few providers for the population. Long travel distances, limited treatment options, and isolation can delay help until things become urgent.

For many individuals and families in and around Iroquois County, inpatient rehab offers a practical solution: a stable environment, consistent clinical support, and a clear plan forward without constant exposure to triggers at home.
