Banyan Treatment Centers provides a solution through its Telehealth Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Delivered online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, this program offers the same clinical quality as in-person care but with greater convenience and flexibility. Licensed clinicians lead structured sessions that combine group therapy, individual counseling, and guided recovery assignments.
For Colorado residents starting outpatient care or transitioning from residential treatment, telehealth ensures that recovery is not disrupted by weather, travel, or scheduling conflicts. With Banyan, support is consistent, private, and accessible year-round, regardless of your location within the state.

Why Telehealth Matters in Colorado
Coloradans face unique challenges when it comes to maintaining regular treatment. Rural areas often lack local providers, while residents of mountain towns may need to drive for hours to reach the nearest clinic. Seasonal weather adds another layer of difficulty, with winter storms making travel unsafe and unpredictable. Additionally, many adults juggle demanding jobs and family responsibilities, leaving them with little time to commute to in-person programs.
Banyan’s telehealth therapy addresses these challenges by bringing care directly into the home. Treatment is private and affordable, delivered on a schedule that fits into daily life. With morning and evening session options, clients can access support without sacrificing work or family obligations. Telehealth makes recovery sustainable by removing barriers associated with geography, transportation, and stigma, ensuring consistent care regardless of the season.

How We Treat Mental Health and Addiction Through Telehealth in Colorado
Banyan’s Colorado Telehealth IOP combines the structure of traditional outpatient treatment with the flexibility of online access. Using a secure platform, clients take part in:
- Group therapy, where participants connect with peers, build accountability, and share recovery strategies.
- Individual counseling provides space for personal reflection and tailored clinical guidance.
- Assignments and skill-building exercises, such as journaling, affirmations, and relapse-prevention planning, that reinforce progress between sessions.
This integrated model supports individuals with substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, or both. Each program is led by master’s-level clinicians who specialize in addiction recovery and behavioral health, ensuring care is consistent, interactive, and effective.
What to Expect From the Curriculum
Banyan’s Colorado telehealth curriculum pairs evidence-based therapy with practical tools you can use right away. Weekly work centers on a few core themes:
- Relapse prevention. Identify triggers, map early warning signs, and build a step-by-step recovery plan you can follow at home.
- Boundaries and relationships. Learn how to set limits, reduce conflict, and strengthen support systems that protect sobriety.
- Anger and emotional regulation. Understand what fuels anger, practice calming techniques, and replace reactive habits with steady responses.
- Trauma recovery and self-worth. Process difficult experiences at a safe pace, challenge negative self-talk, and rebuild confidence through daily routines.
Between sessions, clients complete brief assignments such as journaling prompts, recovery planning, and affirmation practice. These exercises turn session insights into repeatable habits, helping progress hold up during busy weeks and winter weather alike.
State Laws
Colorado supports the broad use of telehealth across Medicaid and private insurance. State statute C.R.S. 10-16-123 defines “telehealth” and sets payer requirements, helping ensure coverage for services delivered virtually. In 2021, HB21-1190 updated the Medical Practice Act’s telemedicine definition to align with HIPAA-compliant technologies used for assessment and treatment.[3] Colorado Medicaid also maintains a Telemedicine & eConsult Billing Manual that details coverage and billing requirements for behavioral health services provided via telehealth.[6]
Prescribing via telemedicine. Providers must comply with federal law regarding controlled substances. In January 2025, the DEA announced new telemedicine rules intended to expand access and strengthen safeguards.[4] Until these rules are fully implemented, federal flexibilities regarding telemedicine prescribing will continue under federal guidance.[5] Clinicians should follow DEA requirements and any applicable Colorado rules when managing medications for substance use or mental health conditions.
