Everyone deserves access to mental health or addiction support, no matter where they live or how busy they are. That’s why our Telehealth Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is available exclusively for Delaware residents, offering the same structure, support, and clinical care as in-person IOP but designed to fit your everyday life.

With secure video sessions, clients meet licensed therapists, join group discussions, and work on personal treatment goals from home. The care and professionalism remain unchanged, now with added convenience.

Telehealth IOP is a good choice for starting recovery or stepping down from higher care.[7] Flexible scheduling and proven therapies help you stay connected while managing work, school, or family. Wherever you live in Delaware, help is now a screen away.

Why Telehealth Matters in Delaware

Delaware is small, but consistent mental health and addiction treatment is not always easy to find. Many people live outside Wilmington and Dover, far from providers.

For others, transportation can be a challenge, whether it’s a lack of a car, long commute times, or a work schedule that doesn’t allow for travel. Some people also avoid walking into a clinic because of stigma, privacy concerns, or fear of being recognized.

Telehealth removes these barriers. With Banyan’s virtual IOP, you can get quality care from home, without commuting or waiting rooms. Sessions are private and HIPAA-compliant, making it easier to start and continue therapy.[4]

Telehealth helps when local resources aren’t enough. Some parts of Delaware have long wait times for care, but virtual care gives you quick access to licensed clinicians.[6] Flexible schedules let you focus on recovery without giving up your daily routine.

The Telehealth Process: How Virtual IOP Works

Telehealth IOP works much like an in-person program, but all sessions take place over secure video.

  • After enrollment, you complete an assessment with our clinical team, who learn about your needs and set up a plan that fits your life.
  • You attend scheduled sessions with licensed therapists who guide you through proven treatments, group discussions, and skill-building. Sessions are live, not pre-recorded.
  • You meet your therapist and group online, following a routine similar to in-person care, but from home.
  • Each week, you join individual therapy and group sessions, and you can include your family.
  • Your team tracks progress and updates your plan as needed, keeping you accountable, supported, and connected.

What to Expect from the Curriculum

In our Delaware Telehealth IOP, you’ll follow a carefully planned weekly curriculum that addresses both substance use and mental health challenges.

During treatment, you’ll cover topics like relapse prevention, healthy boundaries, managing anger and stress, trauma recovery, and rebuilding self-worth.

Each week, licensed clinicians guide virtual group sessions and individual check-ins. Clients learn practical coping strategies for cravings, stress, and emotional triggers. Through skill-building exercises, you’ll explore past behavior patterns, build self-awareness, and work with peers to share support and hold one another accountable.

Since this program is online, you can maintain your flexibility while still receiving structured, high-quality care.

State Laws

Telehealth & Treatment Laws in Delaware

Under current Delaware law, telehealth and telemedicine are fully supported and regulated to ensure safety and access. Providers licensed in Delaware (or appropriately registered through the interstate telehealth registration process) may deliver behavioral-health treatment via video, phone, or other secure communications, as long as a proper provider–patient relationship is established.[5]

Importantly, as of the 2021 Telehealth Access Preservation and Modernization Act, all health insurance companies operating in Delaware must cover telehealth services if those services would be covered in person.[1] That means your Telehealth IOP sessions are eligible for reimbursement under most plans, including Medicaid.[2]

Prescriptions & Controlled Substances via Telehealth

Delaware permits prescribing medication (including controlled substances) via telemedicine, as long as the provider-patient relationship is properly established and all state regulations are followed.[3]

Therapists and physicians must comply with the same standards as in-person care, including thorough evaluation, informed consent, and secure record keeping.

As laws change, Banyan’s telehealth team stays up to date to ensure we follow all rules and keep patients safe, while giving you a flexible way to get care.

Frequently Asked Questions

1Do I have to be located in Delaware to receive telehealth treatment?
Yes. To participate in telehealth care in Delaware, you must be physically located in the state at the time of your virtual sessions, and your provider must meet Delaware’s licensure or telehealth registration requirements. This helps ensure your treatment complies with state law and professional standards.
2What technology do I need to participate in telehealth services?
To join telehealth sessions, you’ll need a device with a camera and microphone (such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer) and a reliable internet connection. Sessions occur through secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect privacy and confidentiality.
3Will I receive the same quality of care through telehealth as in-person treatment?
Yes. Delaware’s telehealth laws require that telehealth services meet the same standards of care and record-keeping as in-person visits. This means your telehealth sessions are designed to be just as effective as traditional treatment.
4Can telehealth providers prescribe medication during virtual treatment?
Yes. In Delaware, clinicians can prescribe medications, including controlled substances, through telemedicine once a proper provider-patient relationship has been established and the care meets state requirements.
5How is Banyan’s telehealth program different from other online treatment options in Delaware?
Banyan’s telehealth program is backed by a nationally recognized treatment network with decades of experience in addiction and mental health care. [8]Unlike standalone virtual therapy platforms, Banyan offers structured programming, licensed clinicians, and coordinated treatment planning, with access to a full continuum of care if additional support is needed.
6Can I transition from Banyan’s telehealth program to in-person treatment if needed?
Yes. One of the benefits of Banyan’s nationwide network is continuity of care. If your clinical team determines that a higher level of support is appropriate, Banyan can help coordinate a seamless transition to in-person treatment within our system, including residential or outpatient services when available.
