What We Treat

Whether you or your loved one is currently living with substance use disorder or a dual diagnosis that combines substance use with a mental illness, Banyan Treatment Center can help. We treat the following conditions:

How We Treat

No two treatment programs are completely identical at Banyan. We offer a range of levels of care, from remote telehealth services to medically supervised detoxification. When a patient is admitted to our facility, we evaluate their condition to determine which treatment and level of care will provide them with the most support and that will keep them safe.

Whether you are in our residential facility, partial hospitalization program or telehealth program, our team monitors you and your progress. We make adjustments as needed, based on how you are doing. If necessary, we may recommend a more intensive level of treatment. Similarly, as you make progress toward recovery, we recommend a less intense treatment.

We use various forms of therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and accelerated resolution therapy to help you or your loved one recognize triggers and develop appropriate ways to respond to those triggers, without the use of alcohol or other substances.

Specialty & Supplemental Programs

Medically supervised detox and rehab are just the beginning. Our treatment center in Milford also provides supplemental programs to round out a patient's recovery and provide them with additional support and encouragement. Our supplemental programs include those designed for specific groups, such as pregnant women, military veterans, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Family therapy examines how substance use and mental health disorders impact entire families and helps relatives develop better ways to communicate and support each other.

Additionally, programs such as art and music therapy, pet therapy, and trauma groups provide patients with ways to express emotions that are often too difficult to verbalize. These programs offer an outlet that many find essential for their emotional healing.

Banyan Delaware offers four levels of care, allowing each patient to have a program tailored to their unique needs:

Medically Monitored Detox

During medically monitored detox, patients withdraw from alcohol or drugs in a safe, supervised fashion. Banyan Delaware makes the detox process as comfortable as possible, allowing you to begin your recovery journey smoothly.

Residential Treatment

Residential treatment at Banyan Delaware gives you the opportunity to stay at our facility while you undergo treatment and care. As a resident, you receive 24 hour care and support.

Partial Hospitalization

Not everyone needs residential treatment, or, a person may complete a residential program and continue to need support and care. Partial hospitalization at Banyan provides a mid-way point solution. You live at home, while undergoing therapy at our facility.

Telehealth Virtual IOP

You may not have the time or ability to participate in a full residential treatment program or even partial hospitalization. Our telehealth program meets you where you are, providing therapy in the privacy of your home.

Leaving for inpatient rehab treatment offers a crucial opportunity to step away from the triggers, environments, and routines that may have fueled addiction or mental health struggles. Being removed from these stressors allows individuals to focus entirely on their healing in a safe, structured, and supportive setting. Inpatient care provides 24/7 access to medical and clinical professionals, peer support, and evidence-based therapies that promote deep emotional and behavioral change. This separation from harmful influences is often the first vital step toward lasting recovery, helping individuals build a solid foundation before returning to daily life with healthier coping strategies and renewed strength.

The town of Milford may seem sleepy, but it's a central hub easily accessible from many cities up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Patients come to Banyan Delaware from cities including:

Statewide & Local Substance Use Overview

Delaware may be the smallest state in the US, but it has one of the highest levels of drug overdose deaths in the country. In 2021, the state had the fifth highest rate of drug overdose deaths. Treatment for and recovery from substance use disorders can help to reduce the frequency of overdose and save lives.

Not only is Delaware facing a substance use crisis, but so are several of its neighboring states. The Kensington section of nearby Philadelphia has become notorious for its open-air drug market and the many people living there who are affected by opioid addiction. The city of Baltimore is also battling an epidemic of drug use.

Statewide Overview

One of the biggest drug threats in Delaware and the surrounding area is opioids. In 2024, there were 338 fatal drug overdoses across the state. Overdoses from opioids, including the synthetic fentanyl, are also a major concern in neighboring Philadelphia, where there were 1,315 overdose deaths in 2023.

Opioids aren't the only substance causing death in Delaware. There are nearly six deaths for every 10,000 people in the state from excessive alcohol intake. More than half of those deaths are related to chronic alcohol use disorder.

Local Overview

Drug and alcohol use disorders are having a major impact on the local area surrounding our Delaware treatment center. Philadelphia is facing a crisis involving the synthetic opioid, fentanyl, which is often added to heroin to make it more potent. Many of the batches of drugs on the market are now contaminated with medetomidine, an animal tranquilizer that is incredibly potent and is linked to numerous drug overdose deaths.

At the same time that it's experiencing an opioid epidemic, Philadelphia is also dealing with increasing alcohol use issues, as are every other state in the country. Deaths related to alcohol use doubled between 2009 and 2021

Banyan Delaware FAQs

1Why Choose Banyan Delaware?
What's the Banyan difference? Like the tree our treatment center is named for, we grow stronger when we work together. Using the strength of those around us, we can become stronger ourselves. That philosophy seeps into everything we do and all the services we provide patients.

Banyan Delaware is part of our nationally recognized, Joint Commission accredited network of treatment centers. Our treatment staff consists of doctors, nurses, licensed therapists and behavioral health technicians, all of whom are with our patients each step of the way through their recovery journey, from the minute you call to be admitted to years after you leave our treatment facility.
2How does Banyan Delaware personalize inpatient treatment?
At Banyan Delaware, we understand that each individual's journey to recovery is unique, which is why we prioritize personalized inpatient treatment at our Milford treatment center. Our approach begins with a comprehensive assessment, where we evaluate each patient's medical history, mental health, substance use patterns, and personal goals. This initial evaluation helps us develop a tailored treatment plan that addresses specific needs and challenges.

Life-Saving Dual Diagnosis Treatment

We specialize in treating dual diagnosis cases, where individuals face both substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Our life-saving services encompass medical detoxification and residential treatment, ensuring that both aspects of a dual diagnosis are addressed comprehensively. By combining these services, we provide a holistic approach that supports recovery on multiple fronts.

Our team of experienced professionals collaborates with patients to create a customized program that may include a combination of evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and holistic approaches like mindfulness, art therapy, and sound therapy. We also incorporate family therapy and support to engage loved ones in the recovery process, fostering a strong support system.

Throughout the treatment journey at our Milford treatment center, we regularly monitor progress and adjust the personalized plan as needed to ensure the best possible outcomes. By focusing on individual strengths and challenges, Banyan Delaware empowers patients to take an active role in their recovery, equipping them with the tools and strategies necessary for lasting change.
3How do I get started at Banyan Delaware?
How to get started: Addiction shouldn’t control your life. You also shouldn’t stand by as you watch your loved one hit rock bottom. The time is now to get help. If you are ready to take this first step, contact us today to talk to an admissions specialist and get more details about our drug and alcohol treatment, programs, and services.

Step 1: Call into Our Admissions Department

Clients or family members can call into our admissions department and speak to one of our treatment specialists. Our team is available 24/7, ensuring that help is always within reach. During this initial call, our specialists will provide compassionate support and gather preliminary information about the client's situation. This includes understanding the nature of the substance use issue, any co-occurring mental health conditions, and other relevant details. This step is crucial as it sets the foundation for the subsequent stages of the admission process.

Step 2: Initial Assessment

After the initial call, we schedule a comprehensive assessment to determine the medical and clinical needs of the client. This assessment is reviewed by our experienced medical and clinical staff and includes a thorough evaluation of the client's physical health, mental health, and substance use history. The assessment may involve standardized questionnaires, interviews, and, if necessary, medical examinations. The goal is to create a detailed profile of the client's condition, which will guide the development of a personalized treatment plan. This step ensures that we can identify the most suitable program for the client, whether it be residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, or another level of care.

Step 3: Verification of Insurance

Understanding the financial aspects of treatment is a crucial part of the admissions process. Insurance plays a vital role in making rehab for addiction more accessible and affordable by covering a significant portion of the costs associated with treatment. This coverage reduces the financial burden on individuals and families, allowing them to focus more on recovery rather than expenses.

Our admissions team will work with the client's insurance provider to verify benefits and coverage. We strive to ensure that clients and their families have a clear understanding of their insurance benefits, the estimated costs of care, and any out-of-pocket expenses they might incur. This transparency helps in alleviating any financial concerns, allowing clients to focus solely on their recovery journey.

Our team is also available to answer any questions regarding payment plans or financial assistance options if needed. By collaborating closely with insurance providers and offering support, we aim to make the path to recovery as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Step 4: Admission into Program

Once all preparations are complete, individuals are officially admitted into the treatment program. This marks the beginning of their therapeutic journey. Upon arrival, clients are welcomed by our staff. During the initial phase of treatment, clients will undergo a detailed orientation to the program's rules, schedules, and expectations. This step ensures that clients feel comfortable and supported as they transition into the therapeutic environment, setting the stage for a successful recovery process.
4Is treatment at Banyan Delaware covered by insurance?
Treatment at Banyan Delaware may be covered by your insurance. Before admission, we can verify your insurance coverage. We offer flexible payment plans and transparent cost information.
5How long does treatment at Banyan Delaware last?
How long treatment lasts depends on multiple factors, including the type of care you receive, whether you are seeking help for substance use, mental health or a dual diagnosis, and how you respond to the treatment.
6What’s the difference between inpatient and outpatient care?
During an inpatient treatment program, or residential program, you stay at the facility. In an outpatient care program, you return home each evening and are only at the facility when receiving therapy.
7Can I return home each day while in treatment?
If you are admitted to our partial hospitalization program, you may return home each day. Patients in our residential treatment programs remain at our treatment center.
8What Affiliations and Accreditations do you have?

Accredited by the Joint Commission, a symbol of quality healthcare nationwide, our facilities provide evidence-based resources tailored to each individual's journey.
