Brevard County, Florida: The Numbers Behind the Need

49,385 - residents of the city of Titusville (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 American Community Survey 5-year estimate)

19.7% - Titusville adults estimated to have depression, nearly one in five (CDC PLACES: depression, 2023 model-based estimate)

17.5% - Titusville adults who report frequent mental distress - fourteen or more poor-mental-health days a month (CDC PLACES: frequent mental distress, 2023 model-based estimate)

3,224 - deaths caused by fentanyl in Florida in 2024, more than any other single drug (Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Medical Examiners Commission 2024 Annual Drug Report)

Titusville's depression estimate is higher than estimates reported for some other Brevard County communities. In a city of nearly 50,000 residents, these percentages represent thousands of adults living with depression or frequent mental distress. At the same time, Titusville does not have a local medical detox or residential addiction treatment program. Florida's statewide fentanyl data reinforces the importance of early intervention, as fentanyl continues to be responsible for more overdose deaths than any other drug in the state. Together, these figures highlight the value of knowing where to access treatment before a crisis develops.

Whether You're Searching for Someone You Love or for Yourself

Many people searching for treatment are looking for help for someone they care about. Others are beginning to recognize that they may need support themselves. Whether you're concerned about a spouse, parent, adult child, or your own well-being, it's normal to have questions about treatment and where to begin.

If you're worried about a loved one, changes in their mood, alcohol or drug use, or ability to manage everyday responsibilities may be signs that it's time for a professional assessment. If you're looking for yourself, you don't have to wait until things feel unmanageable before asking for help. Early treatment can make recovery more achievable and help prevent symptoms from becoming more severe.

The first step is simply understanding your options. An assessment can help determine the most appropriate level of care and whether outpatient treatment, residential care, or another approach is the best fit.

Types of Treatment for Substance Use and Mental Health

Care divides into levels by how much medical oversight and daily structure each provides; a clinical evaluation - not intuition - decides where a case belongs. Top of the scale downward:

Addiction Treatment

Medical Detox

Supervised withdrawal for the substances that endanger people who quit unassisted, with alcohol and benzodiazepines leading the list. Titusville has no detox beds; Banyan's nearest are at Stuart, two hours south.

Addiction Treatment

Residential / Inpatient Treatment

Live-in care under continuous clinical supervision, for the severe cases and the households that keep unraveling recovery from inside.

Addiction Treatment

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Treatment filling the day, home filling the night; the structured descent from residential care.

Addiction Treatment

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

A serious weekly clinical load that a job can survive - delivered locally by some providers and statewide by video.

Addiction Treatment

Outpatient and Telehealth

The lightest tier, and for a city 118 miles from its Banyan campus, the tier that keeps care continuous between heavier phases.

Dual Diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis (Co-Occurring) Care

The substance use and the depression or trauma underneath treated as one case by one team; Titusville's numbers make this the default assumption, not the exception.

Addiction Treatment

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

FDA-approved medication paired with counseling for opioid and alcohol use disorders - medicine with an evidence base, not a moral compromise.

Getting Help in Titusville: The Local Safety Net

For individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, or for those without insurance, Brevard County offers several public behavioral health resources.

Circles of Care provides crisis intervention, inpatient psychiatric services, and outpatient behavioral health care throughout the county. Brevard Health Alliance also offers integrated behavioral health services through its network of community health centers. For additional support, 211 Brevard connects residents with treatment referrals and community resources, while the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day by calling or texting 988.

Individuals who need medical detox, residential addiction treatment, or comprehensive care for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders may also benefit from exploring private treatment options based on their clinical needs.

Private Treatment Options Near Titusville

Titusville residents have access to several behavioral health and addiction treatment providers in the surrounding area, each offering different services and levels of care.

Palm Point Behavioral Health provides inpatient psychiatric care for individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, including those with co-occurring conditions. Brevard Outpatient Alternative Treatment in Melbourne offers outpatient substance use and dual diagnosis treatment. Individuals who need medical detox or residential addiction treatment will generally need to travel outside Titusville for those services.

When comparing treatment programs, consider each provider's clinical specialties, levels of care, insurance participation, admission timelines, and whether mental health and substance use disorders are treated together when appropriate.

For individuals experiencing a crisis or those without insurance, public behavioral health resources such as Circles of Care may be an appropriate place to begin.

Does Insurance Cover Addiction and Mental-Health Treatment?

Nearly always in part, and often in large part. The architecture is federal.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) placed mental-health and substance-use services inside the definition of health insurance itself: since January 1, 2014, non-grandfathered individual and small-group plans must include them among the ten essential health benefit categories.

The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) governs the fine print: a plan's behavioral-health cost-sharing and limits cannot be more restrictive than its medical-surgical terms. On a dual-diagnosis claim - psychiatric and addiction services billed together - parity is what keeps the coverage from splitting at the seam.

What varies is the household math: plan type, deductible progress, and the level of care all move the total, whether the coverage is commercial, Medicare, or Medicaid. The only accurate figure comes from your own benefits, checked before decisions - the more so when the care sits two counties south.

Where Banyan fits: In network with more than 100 plans nationally - Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Florida Blue, Optum, and UnitedHealthcare included - with a free benefits verification completed before admission.

Why Traveling for Treatment Can Help

For some individuals, traveling for treatment provides access to services that may not be available close to home while offering a structured environment focused on recovery. A change of surroundings can help reduce everyday distractions and allow patients to concentrate on treatment.

For Titusville residents, Banyan Stuart offers medical detox, residential treatment, and care for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Transportation assistance may be available for eligible patients, helping make treatment more accessible.

For individuals who are clinically appropriate for outpatient care or unable to travel, Banyan's statewide Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured treatment from home while maintaining consistent clinical support.

How Banyan Serves Titusville

No Banyan campus operates in Brevard County, so the service is one team and two doors, stated exactly:

Telehealth

Virtual IOP, the Close-to-Home Option

Structured group and individual therapy over video, several sessions weekly, open to any Florida resident. For North Brevard, it is the immediate option - treatment that starts this week, works around shift schedules, and later serves as the step-down after a residential stay.

Substance Use

Detox and Residential Care at Banyan Stuart, with Transportation

Banyan Stuart - 201 SE Osceola Street on the St. Lucie River, about 118 miles south, just under two hours - provides medical detox, intensive inpatient and residential treatment, and dual diagnosis care, and offers transportation assistance for patients within roughly three hours of the campus, a radius that includes Titusville. Sebring, Banyan's inland campus, measures slightly farther at about 122 miles and was ruled out as the anchor on distance. Mental-health-primary cases needing more than outpatient care are placed by the admissions team at the appropriate Banyan facility, with distances stated honestly.

Coordinated Care

One Coordinated Plan

Evaluation, benefits, the ride south, and the virtual step-down afterward all run through a single admissions team - one case file, not four.

Conditions We Treat

Both halves of the co-occurring pattern, handled as one case:

Mental Health

Depression

Estimated near one in five Titusville adults; treated as a primary condition through virtual and outpatient care, not an afterthought to the substance work.

Anxiety Disorders

Panic, persistent worry, and avoidance patterns that shrink a life by degrees.

Trauma & PTSD

Trauma-informed care for histories that keep the alarm stuck on.

Substance Use & Dual Diagnosis

Alcohol Addiction

Medically supervised withdrawal at Stuart when quitting is dangerous, then the structured rebuild.

Opioid & Drug Addiction

Treatment built for the fentanyl-era supply, where the statewide numbers above are the argument for urgency.

Co-Occurring Disorders

The depression-and-substance pairing north Brevard's estimates suggest, treated by one team through the virtual IOP and at Stuart.

Why Titusville Residents Choose Banyan

Titusville residents choose Banyan because it provides access to higher levels of addiction treatment that are not available within the city. Depending on a person's needs, treatment may include medical detox, residential care, dual diagnosis treatment, or a statewide Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

From the initial assessment through insurance verification, transportation assistance for eligible patients, and admissions, Banyan's team helps coordinate the treatment process so patients and families can focus on recovery.

Questions about our Facilities or Programs?

Our admissions coordinators are available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have as you consider whether treatment at Banyan is right for you or your loved one.

Common Questions From Titusville Families

Is there a Banyan facility in Titusville?
No - Banyan has no campus in Brevard County; this is a service-area page. Titusville is served by the statewide Virtual IOP at home and by Banyan Stuart - about 118 miles south, just under two hours - for detox, residential, and dual-diagnosis care, with transportation assistance covering the Titusville radius.

Why Stuart and not Sebring?
Both were measured for this page. Stuart is closer - about 118 miles and a faster interstate drive against Sebring's 122 miles inland and it carries the full continuum Titusville lacks: medical detox, intensive inpatient, residential, and co-occurring care, plus a transportation radius that reaches this city.

We already know Palm Point - when is that the right call?
For an acute psychiatric crisis, an in-town hospital is exactly what proximity is for. Banyan's lane is different: the substance-use continuum - detox through residential - and integrated dual-diagnosis treatment, which no Titusville facility provides.

Can treatment work around launch-schedule shifts?
The virtual IOP schedules sessions in blocks that rotate with work, and admissions plans campus stays around contract calendars where possible. The program bends around the job; the clinical structure does not.

What will insurance actually pay?
Plan-dependent - and knowable in advance. Banyan is in-network with 100-plus plans, Medicare and Medicaid widely accepted, and the free verification returns the real out-of-pocket figure before anything is booked.

Getting Into Treatment Is Easier Than You Think

  1. Say it out loud to one person. An admissions specialist turns the situation into options - without a script and without forcing a decision on the call.
  2. Let the clinicians place it. A confidential evaluation sets the level of care, virtual IOP through medical detox, and rules on dual diagnosis.
  3. Get the real number. Benefits verify free, and the out-of-pocket figure lands before the calendar does.
  4. Ride south or log on. Stuart admissions include the transportation plan; virtual admissions need only a quiet room.

This place saved my life. :) I met so many wonderful people, and wonderful staff members. Some standouts were Nurse Laura, my therapist Randy, NP Shannon, and BHT Jason and Adrian. But every staff member was so kind and caring. It’s a very safe and welcoming place to be. That being said, there is room for improvement. The rooms are filthy, and some of the common areas are too. Peers started taking it upon themselves to clean their own bathrooms and some of the common areas. My husband’s jacket somehow got lost in the laundry process, and I never got it back. Some of my peers had some of their things lost as well. Overall, I’m happy that I went. It really did save my life. And I do recommend it. Just know going in that it’s not exactly a well-oiled-machine as far as staffing goes, and expect dirty rooms and common areas.
