Osceola County, Florida: The Numbers Behind the Need

84,767 - residents of Kissimmee, the seat of Osceola County (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 American Community Survey 1-year estimate)

17.7% - Kissimmee adults who report frequent mental distress - two weeks or more of poor mental health in a month (CDC PLACES: frequent mental distress, 2023 model-based estimate)

17.5% - Kissimmee adults estimated to have depression (CDC PLACES: depression, 2023 model-based estimate)

272 - deaths where fentanyl was found by Medical Examiner District 9, which covers Orange and Osceola counties, in 2024; the drug caused 208 of them (Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Medical Examiners Commission 2024 Annual Drug Report)

Florida's total drug-related deaths fell 14 percent in 2024 - genuine progress that broader naloxone access and treatment expansion may be contributing to - but the two-county district that includes Kissimmee still recorded 208 deaths caused by fentanyl. Alongside that, nearly one in five Kissimmee adults reports frequent mental distress, in a workforce where irregular hours, seasonal income, and physically demanding jobs raise the ordinary strain of getting help. The numbers frame the local problem plainly: the mental-health load and the substance risk sit in the same households, and the county's own system covers crisis far better than it covers the sustained, integrated care that follows.

Whether You're Searching for Someone You Love or for Yourself

Looking into treatment can raise practical questions about the level of care, scheduling, insurance, language preferences, transportation, and what the admissions process involves. You do not need to have all of these details figured out before reaching out for information.

For Kissimmee residents, work schedules and language preferences may be important considerations when comparing treatment options. Some people may benefit from outpatient or virtual services that offer greater scheduling flexibility, while others may need medical detox, residential treatment, or another higher level of care.

If you are researching treatment for someone else, you can learn about available programs, insurance benefits, and the admissions process while respecting that person’s role in treatment decisions. If you are considering treatment for yourself, a clinical assessment can help identify your needs and determine which options may be appropriate.

Types of Treatment for Substance Use and Mental Health

Treatment is available at different levels of care depending on a person’s symptoms, medical needs, and the amount of structure and support required. A clinical assessment can help determine which level may be appropriate.

Addiction Treatment

Medical Detox

Medically supervised care for people experiencing withdrawal when symptoms or potential complications require medical monitoring.

Addiction Treatment

Residential / Inpatient Treatment

Live-in treatment that provides structured clinical support and therapy for people who need a higher level of care.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

A structured program that provides treatment for several hours a day, several days per week, while allowing patients to live outside the treatment facility.

Addiction Treatment

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Structured therapy provided several times per week for people who need more support than traditional outpatient care but do not require residential treatment.

Addiction Treatment

Outpatient & Telehealth

Less intensive treatment options that may include individual therapy, group therapy, and virtual services depending on the program and individual needs.

Dual Diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis (Co-Occurring) Care

Integrated treatment for people experiencing both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety, or a trauma-related disorder.

Addiction Treatment

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

The use of FDA-approved medications alongside counseling to treat certain substance use disorders.

Does Insurance Cover Addiction and Mental-Health Treatment?

Insurance may cover mental health and substance use treatment, but coverage varies by plan, provider, and level of care. Before choosing a program, you can verify benefits to understand available coverage and potential out-of-pocket costs.

For Kissimmee residents with employer-sponsored, marketplace, Medicare, or Medicaid coverage, the specific benefits and costs depend on the individual plan. Federal laws, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), provide protections for mental health and substance use disorder coverage under many health plans.

Banyan offers free insurance verification to help you review your available benefits and better understand potential costs before deciding whether to move forward with treatment.

Why Traveling for Treatment Can Help

Kissimmee residents have local options for outpatient mental health and substance use care, but some people may consider treatment outside the immediate area when they need a specific service or higher level of care.

Whether traveling is appropriate depends on individual needs. Factors such as the recommended level of care, available program services, insurance coverage, transportation, work or family responsibilities, and plans for continued care after treatment can all be part of the decision.

Travel is not necessary for everyone. When clinically appropriate, outpatient or virtual treatment may allow someone to receive structured support while remaining at home. A clinical assessment can help determine which treatment options may be appropriate.

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Jordan and the support she has given me throughout my loved one’s time at Banyan. As my family liaison, Jordan became my go-to person from the very beginning. Whenever I had a question, needed help getting information to or from my loved one, or had something urgent happening with his elderly mother that needed to be communicated, Jordan was always there. She was responsive, dependable, and somehow always seemed to know exactly what I needed. But what made Jordan so special was that she went far beyond simply being a point of contact. This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional journey for me as a family member, and Jordan became an enormous source of support. She listened when I needed someone to listen, helped me through some very difficult moments, and always treated me with genuine compassion and kindness. Jordan is loving, caring, funny, hopeful, and incredibly good at what she does. Even during some of the hardest days, she had a way of making things feel a little more manageable. I never felt like I was just another family member calling with another problem. I felt heard, cared about, and supported. When someone you love is struggling with addiction, the family goes through so much alongside them. Having someone like Jordan on the other end of the phone made a bigger difference to me than she probably realizes. I will always be incredibly grateful to Jordan for everything she has done for me and my family. Banyan is very fortunate to have her. ❤️
