Todd Chrisley’s Son Talks About His Addiction and Mental Health Issues

Just the other week, “Chrisley Knows Best” star Todd Chrisley shared a photo of his son Kyle Chrisley in the hospital.

He captioned the photo, “NOT TODAY SATAN, NOT TODAY…God shows up and shows out, no won’t he do it? Kyle is great and we are back to the grind.” It has now been revealed that Kyle’s hospitalization was due to a suicide attempt.

Kyle Chrisley’s Addiction and Rehab Journey

On their podcast, “Chrisley Confessions”, the 27-year-old says, “I take medication and I had a bad side effect to it, and I tried to take my own life.” According to Kyle, suicidal tendencies was a possible side effect that was listed on the medication, but no further explanation was given on what kind of medication he was on. He is no longer taking that medication. Having gone to over 40 different rehabs for his addiction, Kyle says that the support from his family and the new medication that he is on has gotten him back on the right track.

Speaking out about his struggles is one step in the right direction toward ending the stigma around addiction.

What Kyle has been going through sounds like a co-occurring disorder. Dual diagnosis (or co-occurring disorder) is when someone suffers from both substance abuse issues as well as mental health issues. People who are dealing with a dual diagnosis need co-occurring disorder treatment if they’re going to get and stay sober.

Here at Banyan Treatment Centers, we offer various programs and therapies to help people struggling with addiction and mental health issues as well as the negative effects addiction may have on a family.
