Andrew Gillum’s Statement About Hotel Room Incident
Though there was suspected drug use, Andrew Gillum claims he did not use illegal drugs. Gillum was in town for a wedding and stated that he had too much to drink. In a statement that he made on Sunday, he said, “This has been a wakeup call for me. Since my race for governor ended, I fell into a depression that had led to alcohol abuse.” This type of behavior is not uncommon as many people will turn to drugs or alcohol for comfort during a time of need or depression. Andrew Gillum’s father also suffered from alcoholism to which he was a witness to the damaging effects when left untreated. He says, “I am committed to doing the personal work to heal fully and show up in the world as a more complete person.” He concluded this statement by saying, “I now need to firmly focus on myself and my family. I will be stepping down from all public facing roles for the foreseeable future.”
