Delta 8 Side Effects

Delta 8 Side Effects

What is delta-8? The product is in high demand, although it’s somewhat new to the market. The product is not officially approved or tested but can be purchased at local gas stations and marijuana shops. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary psychoactive constituent of cannabis, and delta-8 is produced from the hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) but manipulated to become the substance. There are currently hundreds of reports representing the adverse delta-8 side effects such as severe anxiety, vomiting, and hallucinations.

Delta 8 Health Risks

Delta 8 THC has many risks since the substance has psychoactive effects. The National Poison Control Center received 2,362 delta-8 negative side effects due to exposure between January 1, 2021, and February 28, 2022.1 Many individuals sought immediate healthcare attention, and reports indicate there was a child’s death.

Although the drug can boost mood or produce a calming sensation, delta 8 side effects may not be worth the use of the substance. Many people will smoke delta 8 to improve sleep patterns, but long-term health complications are probable. Other side effects of delta 8 include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Aggression
  • Blurred vision
  • Mental depression
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pounding in the ears
  • Slow reaction times
  • Troubled breathing at rest
  • Swelling of the fingers, hands, feet, or lower legs

The intensity of symptoms depends on the number of dangerous chemicals in the substance and how manufacturers test the product before it’s sold on the market. Some manufacturers will not test the drug at all. Users may easily form a physical dependence on the drug, which can lead to long-term health complications if not properly addressed.

How Is Delta-8 Produced?

The non-synthetic cannabinoid is found in the cannabis plant but manipulated in a laboratory. Marijuana is not legal in every state or limits people from purchasing unless a medical card is shown. Overall, hemp is naturally occurring, and hemp plants are federally legal. By the use of a conversion process, delta-8 is manufactured through CBD, which is known to be the cousin plant of marijuana.

During the conversion process, manufacturers dissolve CBD into a solvent, typically heptane. After the development of the solution, acid is mixed and stirred into the substance for around 18 hours. Washing and neutralizing the solution is vital, and the final product is tested in a lab, confirming the level of purity. Unfortunately, many labs do not repeatedly test the product before it’s sold on markets which causes a rise in negative delta 8 side effects.
