July is a great time of the year not only to celebrate the nation’s Independence Day but also to recognize and support those who made it happen: veterans. National Hire a Veteran Day 2022 is on July 25th, a day when we can support Veterans by helping them find and obtain the employment they need to sustain themselves and integrate happily into society. As a veteran and military rehab center for addiction, we understand how difficult it is for active-duty and past military personnel to transition to everyday life. Helping veterans find employment is one way we, as a nation, can serve those who have served us so faithfully.
What Is National Hire a Veteran Day?
National Hire a Veteran Day was established in 2017 and founded by Dan Caporale, a Marine Corps Veteran and founder of Hire Our Heroes, a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping military service members, spouses, and veterans find employment. Hire a Veteran Day was set aside to raise awareness of the need for civilian employment for veterans and service members transitioning into daily life after service.
This day is also a call to action for those who hire and those who apply. Employers are encouraged to consider and hire Veterans, which is a way for them to help service members become accustomed to daily life in and out of work.
National Hire a Veteran Day reminds employers that military personnel and veterans are dedicated, hardworking, disciplined, and intelligent individuals who have teamwork, work ethic, tenacity, and dedication to succeed. These features are many of the must-have traits that many employers seek in new team members. What’s more, the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017 (HIRE Vets Act) was passed in 2017, further supporting National Hire a Veteran Day.
The HIRE Vets Medallion Program was eventually created to recognize employers that demonstrate a commitment to hiring and retaining veterans and military service members and helping them find their footing in society. Overall, July serves as an excellent time to remind employers about this program, as applications for the HIRE Vets Medallion Program are accepted starting at the end of January every year.
