Dr. David Husted

Medical Director
Dr. David Husted is a highly regarded psychiatrist with a strong educational background who has helped thousands of patients with depression and anxiety. He is passionate about helping his patients “live their best life.” As we journey through life, there are expected and unexpected events, negative emotions, and even choices that happen. Overcoming fears, anxieties, mental struggles, and depression are so important for us all, and our ability to cope and achieve wellness impacts us and the people we love. Dr. Husted’s mission is to help patients get better and start to thrive. Living our best life is something we naturally desire.
Dr. Husted decided to pursue psychiatry as a surprise choice upon completion of his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Florida. As top of his medical school class, he had several prestigious options yet felt unexpectedly drawn to psychiatry. He has never regretted this choice as he finds being a psychiatrist immensely rewarding. He has received many awards, published many papers, and has delivered numerous speaking engagements over the course of his career, yet what he values most is seeing his patients get better and have hope. The importance of mental health and its treatment is increasingly recognized as necessary and an extremely valuable area of medicine. What is more important than your mental health?
Dr. Husted studied at the University of Florida obtaining a Bachelors in Chemistry, Masters in Physics, and a Doctorate of Medicine. Throughout his studies he distinguished himself by being Valedictorian in both his undergraduate class and medical school class. He also distinguished himself with over a dozen academic awards and has written or collaborated on 19 research papers and studies, the majority of which are published in peer reviewed journals. He was honored to be the Chairman of Psychiatry at JFK Medical Center for the last 5 years and Medical Director of Palm Beach Behavioral Health since 2014. He continues to serve as Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Miami, leading the Psychiatry clerkship at the Regional Medical Campus. He greatly enjoys teaching the medical students as he furthers their understanding and compassion for mental illness and shapes their future careers, which he hopes will positively impact countless future patients. In his personal life, David Husted is described as optimistic, outgoing, energetic, and an identical twin. He loves the outdoors, runs every day, and is an avid reader (science fiction and history.) He loves his job and prioritizes his personal life. He is the proud father of two children. His interests include skiing, reading, traveling, running, and football. He is also a long-suffering fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a more recent fan of Tom Brady.

Caleb was born in Louisville, Kentucky and played football at Lindsey Wilson College, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Communication. He sought treatment at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches, now a Banyan facility, more than four years ago and has been sober ever since. Caleb began his career at Banyan as an Admissions Coordinator and went on to receive several promotions within the organization. He now acts as a National Business Development Representative for the state of Kentucky, where he lives with his wife and son. Caleb is passionate about his position and being able to continue his career at Banyan in his home state, saying that he feels honored to be able to help those in his community who struggle with the same issues he once faced. He has made is his main goal to help anyone seeking treatment to get the help they need.

Christina Scherer

Family Services Coordinator
Christina was born and raised in New Jersey where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies from Monmouth University. With much uncertainty about which career path she wanted to pursue, Christina found herself involved with the wrong crowd. She began experimenting with drugs and struggled with addiction for eight years. During that period of time, Christina had several unsuccessful treatment attempts, and tried many unconventional methods to achieve sobriety. Upon finding her bottom, she was able to create a plan with the support of her family that landed her in South Florida for long term treatment. Christina began her career at Banyan in early recovery as a receptionist, worked directly with our clients as a case manager, and most recently joined our Family Services team. She recognizes the immense impact that her family has played in her recovery and looks forward to supporting and guiding the families and loved ones of our clients.
