As the U.S. continues to be mindful of the number of COVID-19 cases, many people are wondering how they will be able to continue to receive their healthcare services at home. How do you get the healthcare you need when you cannot go into the doctor’s office? This is where telehealth comes in. Otherwise referred to as telemedicine, this remote and online form of healthcare has allowed patients to receive care of all kinds in the comfort and safety of their homes. Banyan Treatment Centers has joined the movement and is offering Florida telehealth for addiction and mental health to reach more clients.

What Is Telehealth Therapy?

Also known as telemedicine, telehealth allows your healthcare provider to provide care for you without an in-person office visit. Medical professionals who use telehealth will meet with their patients through video chat using applications like Skype or Zoom, allowing patients access to their services no matter where they are if they have the internet and a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

In addition to speaking to your doctor over the phone or via video chat, telehealth also includes sending and receiving messages from your doctor through a secure messaging service and using remote monitoring so your doctor can check on you at home. Due to its flexibility, patients can receive a variety of specialized care through telehealth for situations and conditions, including results of lab tests or x-rays, mental health care, recurring conditions like migraines or urinary tract infections, skin conditions, prescription management, and more. As a nationwide addiction treatment facility, Banyan offers telehealth in Florida for addiction and mental health, as well as in several other states, to reach as many patients as possible.

Who We Treat at Our Florida Telehealth Rehabilitation Center

Banyan has numerous addiction treatment facilities in Florida, including our rehab centers in Boca Raton, Pompano Beach, Stuart, and Sebring. Generally speaking, all Banyan facilities are designed to offer substance abuse treatment and mental health care to adults ages 18 and older. We offer specialized programs to reach a variety of demographics, including:

  • Adults struggling with addiction
  • Adults struggling with mental illness
  • Pregnant women struggling with addiction and/or mental illness
  • Executives and other high-level professionals with addiction or mental illness
  • Veterans and their families
  • First responders
  • College students (ages 18 and older)

Because each of these groups of individuals is in different stages of life, they require specialized care to meet their unique needs. For instance, a veteran battling an alcohol use disorder may require a different form of treatment and support than a college student struggling with depression. Our Florida telehealth mental health and addiction services are flexible enough to be customized according to an individual’s schedule and needs.

Our Telehealth Programs

While our facilities offer various levels of addiction treatment for in-person care, the levels offered via our telehealth treatment program are our intensive outpatient program (IOP) and our outpatient program (OP) for addiction, as well as our IOP for mental health. We also offer various specialized programs to help groups like veterans, as well as a faith-based program to incorporate spiritual healing.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Addiction & Mental Illness

IOP is designed to help individuals who need help transitioning to a sober lifestyle or a routine in which they are applying the coping mechanisms they have learned in rehab. IOP consists of around 3 hour-long sessions 3 days a week to keep patients locked in their treatment as they develop a new routine based on all the things they have learned at our facilities. Included in our telehealth IOP are 9 hours of group therapy per week as well as an hour of individual therapy and/or family therapy per week.

Veterans Program

The same form of IOP is also offered to our veterans. Banyan recently added our Military and Veterans in Recovery program, which was specially designed to help active-duty members and VA recover from substance use disorders and mental illness. Considering the trauma and combat many of these individuals are exposed to throughout their careers, it is understandable why so many suffer from mental illness and turn to drugs or alcohol to cope. To better serve our servicemen and women, we offer both in-house and outpatient services like telehealth to this group.

Faith-Based Program

Banyan Treatment Centers also has a Faith in Recovery program designed to help patients by using spiritual healing. Patients who choose to partake in this program meet with a counselor every week to discuss developing or building their relationship with God and establishing faith-based recovery techniques they can apply to their routine. Although this program is Christ-centered, patients of all religious and non-religious backgrounds are welcome to participate.

Family Services

At Banyan, we believe that having a dedicated support system at home is crucial for long-term recovery and maintenance, whether that is from addiction or mental illness. For this reason, we offer a telehealth family program that allows spouses, family members, and close friends to work with our counselors to learn more about the individual’s disorder, how they can participate in the healing process, and receive guidance on their personal healing.

SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery is another program that is offered in our Florida telehealth controlled substances and mental health treatment. SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training and is an approach to addiction and mental health care that focuses on instilling independence and self-efficacy in our clients. This program consists of group and individual therapy sessions, allowing clients to connect with others who are also in recovery.

12-Step Program

The 12-Step program has been around for decades and is an extension of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as well as Narcotics Anonymous (NA). These groups require that participants complete 12 steps to achieve long-term recovery and profoundly change their lives. While these groups may have a spiritual undertone, all are welcome.

Our Florida telehealth program addresses disorders like substance use disorders, mental health disorders, co-occurring disorders, grief and loss, and PTSD and trauma disorders. Not only are the programs mentioned above utilized in this program, but we also incorporate evidence-based treatment methods to help clients heal both physically and mentally from whatever they are battling. These methods include:

  • Anger Management
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Family Therapy
  • Individual and Group Therapy
  • Life Skills
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Reality Therapy
  • Relapse Prevention
  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT)
