What Is IOP Eating Disorder Treatment?

IOP stands for an intensive outpatient program and is the lower level of care behind our partial hospitalization program or PHP. It will typically run 3 to 5 days a week, with programming consisting of group therapy, individual therapy sessions, and much more. Sessions will usually last for a few hours a day, giving clients the opportunity to return home and night. This flexibility also provides clients the chance to attend to any personal obligations they may have.

An intensive outpatient program for eating disorders is best suited to a client that meets the following criteria:

• The individual continues to feel an impact from the eating disorder in their everyday life.
• Additional mental health conditions like addiction or depression still require management.
• There is a clear benefit for the client from having the support and structure of this program.
• The client and/or their family are able to comply with the requirements of IOP treatment.
• The client is not at risk of harming themselves or others.
