If you or someone you care about is struggling with their mental health, it may be time to consider treatment options. When it comes to veterans with mental illness, in addition to substance use disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety are among the most common afflictions. Because veterans are more often exposed to combat-related trauma and experience other unique situations, it’s important to offer them individualized care that meets their needs. Designed specifically to support the service members at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, our drug rehab in Langhorne, PA, offers outpatient mental health services for veterans in need.

What Is Outpatient Mental Health Treatment?

Outpatient treatment refers to non-residential care, in which the client spends structured time at a facility during the day and can return home each night. People who choose to participate in outpatient mental health services do so for various reasons. They may have small children at home they need to care for and busy schedules at work, or they can’t take time off to receive care full-time.

Outpatient mental health care is also designed for servicemembers who do not have severe mental health disorders. These individuals are able to maintain a daily routine, care for their families, and fulfill their responsibilities at school and home, among other things. They’re also medically stable and not at risk of hurting themselves or others.

Benefits of Outpatient Mental Health Care

For veterans with mild to moderate mental health symptoms, strong support systems at home, and the ability to function independently outside of rehab, outpatient care is usually an ideal choice. Benefits of outpatient mental health treatment include:

  • Allowing veterans to apply the skills and strategies they learn in treatment to real-life situations
  • Allowing veterans to maintain commitments and responsibilities with work and school
  • Allowing veterans to stay connected with loved ones while still receiving treatment
  • Helping veterans stay connected with their treatment team and remain accountable to their personalized plans
  • Helping veterans transition back into everyday situations, equipped with tools to help optimize their independence and live meaningful lives

Our outpatient mental health treatment for veterans also has the added benefit of being less expensive than residential care.

Our Mental Health Programs for Veterans

There are various types of outpatient mental health programs offered at our Philadelphia rehab center, each of which provides a different level of structure:

  • Standard Outpatient Care: This involves regular visits to the outpatient clinic, treatment center, or hospital, as outlined by the person’s care plan. Our outpatient program runs 3 days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays) for 3 hours, from 4 pm to 7 pm.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): IOPs are designed to provide more structure and support than standard outpatient care while still allowing patients the time and flexibility to tend to their other responsibilities. The length of an IOP can range from a few weeks to a year, depending on the patient’ plan. Our IOP for mental health runs 3 days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays), 3 hours a day (4 pm to 7 pm), as well as onsite amenities like biofeedback.
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): This is a highly structured and supervised program, providing the most intensive level of non-residential care. PHPs are often beneficial for clients who are reintegrating into their lives after residential treatment. Our veterans PHP for mental health runs 5 days a week (Monday through Friday) for 5 hours a day (4 pm to 9 pm). Transportation is included starting at 3 pm, as well as access to onsite amenities such as biofeedback.

Additional services and amenities offered in our mental health programs include:

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Individual, Group, and Family Therapy
  • Life Skills Reintegration
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Rapid Resolution Therapy

With a focus on teaching clients how to manage their symptoms, identify triggers, overcome fears, develop communication skills, and establish healthy daily routines, our outpatient mental health services for veterans aim to help veterans regain control over their lives.
