Also known as day treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) are a level of care that delivers a daily treatment while allowing patients to return home or to an approved recovery residence every night. Drug PHP offers a similar level of treatment and structure as that of inpatient and residential treatment programs without the need to live at the facility. While a partial hospitalization rehab program is often a “step down” from inpatient care, some clients enroll directly in this program. As part of our Military and Veterans in Recovery program, our Palm Springs rehab offers a partial hospitalization program for veterans and military personnel that could help you or a loved one get and stay sober.

What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

A partial hospitalization program is a level of addiction care that allows clients to return home or to an approved recovery residence after completing their individual and group sessions every day. Unlike residential treatment, clients in our Military and Veterans PHP do not have to live at our facility.

Patients at our partial hospitalization drug rehab in California usually receive treatment for several hours a day, several days a week. This is a flexible treatment plan that is best suited for individuals who do not require 24-hour care and supervision but do require an additional level of support during recovery. Our PHP services allow clients to continue their care plans while carving out time for other responsibilities like family, work, and school.

Our partial hospitalization program for veterans and military service members is a hospital-based form of outpatient addiction treatment. As we previously mentioned, this program does not require our patients to stay at our facility and instead allows them to choose their own living situations, unlike residential programs.

While residential care is best suited for individuals who require daily attention and medically supervised detox, our PHP is an option for those who have already undergone detox and some form of care flexibly and effectively.

PHP, on the other hand, is better suited for veterans and military personnel who have already undergone detox programs or do not require further medical care. These individuals may also need support and structure in addiction recovery without having to live onsite.

Our partial hospitalization program for veterans and military service members allows clients to transition to an everyday routine with constant guidance and support. To partake in this level of care, clients need to achieve a degree of stability away from a treatment center.

Most clients in our Military and Veterans in Recovery program have spent weeks to months at a time away from their loved ones and were also exposed to a lot of trauma and combat during deployment. PHP services offered at our Southern California rehab not only help them recover from addiction but also empowers them to work on their relationships so they can experience real and positive transformation in their lives.

How Long Does PHP Last?

The duration of a PHP, or partial hospitalization program, varies depending on the individual's needs and progress. PHP is a structured and intensive outpatient treatment option that provides comprehensive mental health services while allowing individuals to return home in the evenings. The length of PHP typically ranges from a few weeks to a couple of months. The specific duration is determined by the severity of the individual's mental health condition, the goals of the treatment plan, and the pace at which progress is made. The primary objective of a PHP is to stabilize and improve an individual's mental health, equipping them with the necessary skills and coping mechanisms to transition successfully to less intensive levels of care, such as intensive outpatient programs or traditional outpatient therapy. As progress is monitored, adjustments to the length of the PHP may be made to ensure that the individual receives the most beneficial and appropriate level of care.

Our PHP Addiction Treatment for Veterans and Military Personnel

So how does our PHP addiction treatment work? When a veteran or military servicemember enters our PHP, they can expect to attend individual counseling, group therapy sessions, and family therapy sessions. With our support, not only will clients be able to better understand their disorders and symptoms but also develop an understanding and appreciation for themselves.

Family therapy also helps clients build a strong support system at home. Through all treatment modalities, our Palm Springs addiction services are overseen by our specialists and/or physicians to ensure comprehensive support for the veterans and military personnel.

Individual Therapy Sessions

Our individual counseling sessions provide tailored and private opportunities to learn and grow with our counselors. Although group sessions are helpful, clients need a safe and free space where they can sit with their therapists to discuss their struggles.

We understand that everyone is different, especially when it comes to recovering from addiction, which is why our therapists incorporate unique therapy programs and other evidence-based modalities to get to the source of clients’ problems. During one-on-one sessions, clients and counselors work closely to better understand the former’s triggers and best coping strategies.

Group Therapy Sessions

Although group counseling can sound intimidating, we believe clients need to be surrounded by others in the recovery community to whom they can relate and learn. All members in the group have their own fears, insecurities, and scars, but by exposing clients to like-minded individuals who can relate, they can learn new relapse prevention strategies and receive the motivation to move forward.

Family Therapy Sessions

Our family therapy sessions involve the spouses and family members of clients to promote healing within the family unit. Those closest to addicts are often impacted by the former’s drug use, which can have lasting, negative effects. To address these issues and help clients make amends with their loved ones, we incorporate family therapy in our partial hospitalization program for veterans and military personnel.
