Each addiction treatment specialist is dedicated to helping our patients, working diligently and endlessly to make them feel safe and cared for. Because we appreciate our California rehab specialists so much, we’re proud to share more about National Addiction Professionals Day 2021, a day where all addiction rehab specialists are celebrated.
Now that addiction and recovery resources are gaining more public exposure, it’s time to honor those who have dedicated themselves to this challenging and much-needed field: certified addiction professionals. National Addiction Professionals Day is on September 20th, 2021, as part of National Recovery Month. Started by NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, in 1992, Addiction Professionals Day was established to honor those who dedicate themselves to treating people with substance use disorders. NAADAC is the largest organization for drug addiction specialists and represents over 100,000 addiction professionals like certified intervention specialists, addiction counselors, therapists, and more.
National Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention services, treatment, and recovery for mental health and substance use disorders. National Recovery Month is September and involves a variety of smaller events, such as National Addiction Professionals Day, to spread awareness on the importance of treatment, show support to those who have been affected by addiction, and celebrate hardworking rehab specialists. National Recovery Month was started in 1989 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders. Over time, additional events like Addiction Professionals Day were added to ensure that everyone who’s been affected by addiction, needs drug treatment, or has first-hand experience with this condition is shown support.
You can help NAADAC celebrate National Addiction Professionals Day by hosting your own virtual event or by promoting this day on social media and among friends, family, and colleagues. You can do this by downloading the tool kit that the NAADAC offers for this day, which includes a newsletter, sample social media posts, and shareable graphics. By spreading awareness during National Recovery Month, you could reach a drug rehab specialist who may need the encouragement. You may also get the attention of someone battling addiction and who needs inpatient drug treatment.
