Celebrating One Month Sober

Celebrating One Month Sober

People have been drinking alcohol for thousands of years, but it’s only in the past few decades that the dangers of alcohol have been researched.

When you first got substance abuse treatment, you may have been at rock bottom, but after many hours of therapy and working through many addiction cravings, you did it. Your first month sober is a big milestone that deserves to be treated as such.

How to Celebrate One Month Sober

Getting sober is a huge accomplishment and staying sober is even better. Our PHP rehab is sharing some of the best ways to celebrate one month in recovery to reward yourself for all of your hard work so far.

Reflect

The best way to celebrate one month of sobriety may just be looking back on how far you have come. Before you got treatment, your life may have been falling apart. You may have lost your job, your friends, your friends, and your home. Now that you have been sober for one month, you are starting to put the pieces back together. Instead of focusing on how much further you have to go, take this time to recognize how big an accomplishment you already made.

Spend Time with Loved Ones

It is not uncommon for people with substance abuse problems to push their loved ones away and for their personal relationships to become damaged. Now that you are celebrating one month sober, you have likely been making amends and repairing some of the damage done to these relationships. Use this time to celebrate your one month sober with those closest to you and take the time to thank them for sticking by your side.

Get A Memento

Another good way to celebrate one month sober and make sure you continue on the right track is with a sobriety memento. A keychain, necklace, chip, or bracelet that commemorates your one-month sober anniversary is something you can keep with you. It may also act as a good reminder that you can stay sober when times get tough.

Do Something You Couldn’t Before

When you are using drugs or an alcoholic, these substances become your main priority and other things get pushed to the side. Being sober means that your mind is clear, your body is more able, and you can do a lot more. Take advantage of your sobriety and do something you never could have done while being an addict and under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This could be taking dance classes, going skydiving, learning a new language, or climbing a mountain.

Celebrating one month sober should be fun; just be careful not to get carried away. Sobriety is a lifelong commitment. You don’t want to try to skip some steps and end up putting yourself in a triggering situation that you are not yet ready to handle. If you do end up relapsing, it shouldn’t be the end of your hard work. Our Massachusetts stabilization program for addiction is here to help you get back on the right track so your days in recovery extend far beyond the one-month mark.

At Banyan Massachusetts, we want to help our patients to find a lifetime of sobriety. If you or a loved one is ready to take the first step to a new beginning, call us today at 888-280-4763.
