About the Treasure Coast’s Largest Fentanyl Drug Bust
During a recent narcotics investigation that resulted in seven arrests, the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office accomplished a historic milestone by seizing the greatest quantity of fentanyl ever found on the Treasure Coast. Multiple locations, including Smoking Buds smoke shop in Fort Pierce, Joint Smoke and Vape on Kings Highway in Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie Boulevard in Port St. Lucie, High Expectations on S. Federal Highway in Port St. Lucie, and a home on SW McCoy Avenue in Port St. Lucie, were allegedly involved with this fentanyl seizure. Smoking Buds produced almost 2.75 lbs. of fentanyl throughout the locations.1
The amount of fentanyl that was recovered, which has a street value of more than $350,000, is evidence of how serious the region's opioid problem is. Sheriff Ken Mascara underlined the gravity of the issue, stating that the amount of fentanyl seized had the potential to cause unspeakable damage, capable of hurting the whole population of St. Lucie County, Martin County, and Indian River County.
The successful six-month investigation, carried out in partnership with the DEA, highlights law enforcement's tenacious efforts to thwart drug trafficking and safeguard the public from the risks presented by these dangerous substances. The suspects are now facing various charges, which is a big step forward in the region's fight against drug-related crimes.
Why Is Fentanyl Dangerous?
Because of their extraordinary strength, synthetic opioids like fentanyl present serious risks to those who are exposed to them.
