Best Online Addiction Recovery Support Groups

Best Online Addiction Recovery Support Groups

When patients leave our drug rehab center in Boston, their sobriety journey is only just beginning. Life in recovery requires an active effort to maintain sobriety; this is not always easy.

The real world outside of rehab is filled with addiction triggers that can cause someone to relapse. One of the best ways to stay on track is to find a good support system that will be there for you throughout the ups and downs of recovery.

Online Recovery Support Groups for Addiction

While it is important to attend in-person recovery meetings regularly, this may not always be possible. Whether you are sick, traveling, stuck inside, or you are just looking for some added support, there are plenty of online addiction recovery support groups that could help you stay on the right track.

AA

Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States, many local Alcoholics Anonymous groups have made their meetings virtual and created a regular online addiction recovery support group. Check their website for more information about joining or even starting a group.

SMART Recovery

SMART recovery may have been an addiction therapy you used in treatment, but you can still apply these same principles to recovery. You can go online and find a local Smart Recovery meeting near you or join their online community.

12 Steps

12-Step meetings are another popular recovery group that has transitioned from just physical meetings to now virtual ones as well. The 12-Step meetings are not for everyone, but trying a meeting online before attending one in-person may be a good option for you.

Soberistas

This paid platform focuses on connecting women who are recovering alcoholics online. Once you create a profile, you are able to share your personal stories as well as chat with others in the community. The service also has recovery resources like addiction webinars and a blog written by community members.

Reddit

While not an online recovery meeting, Reddit is an online forum where people in the addiction and recovery community can tell their stories. Proceed with caution as people are open to say just about anything, but it is a place of anonymity where people speak candidly. If you are having trouble opening up at an in-person meeting, Reddit may be a good option to practice telling your story.

Start a Group

While you may have gotten opioid addiction treatment in Boston, you may now live in New Hampshire. Instead of having to cut ties with the community of support of the peers from your treatment program, you can connect with them online. Schedule regular online recovery meetings with them and tell them to invite their sober friends to join as well. Continuing to stay in touch with the people who you went through treatment with can remind you that you are not alone and help you stay on track.
