Palm Springs Partial Hospitalization Program

Overcoming a substance abuse problem takes the right care and a good amount of support. Our partial hospitalization program in California offers patients a safe and stable environment to focus on their recovery while providing them with more freedom and flexibility than traditional inpatient programming. The PHP program at Banyan’s Southern California rehab is designed to be a steppingstone in the recovery journey, helping patients transition from the controlled environment that is rehab back to life outside of our facility.

How Do I Know if I Need PHP?

The intensity of your addiction, the degree of care you need, and the complexity of your recovery requirements will all play a role in determining if you need PHP for addiction treatment. A PHP could be helpful if you discover that your drug use has seriously harmed your relationships, everyday functioning, or general well-being. Partial hospitalization programs provide an organized and focused approach to treatment, enabling you to go home in the evenings while receiving medical attention, therapy, and counseling. PHP can also be an essential transitional step if you've finished a residential treatment program and require a lower level of care before moving on to outpatient therapies. It's critical to speak with healthcare practitioners or addiction specialists to evaluate your situation and choose the best course of action.

What to Expect From the PHP at Banyan Palm Springs

Before treatment begins, all patients will undergo a full clinical assessment to determine what approach to treatment best meets their needs. From here, our intake counselors will help you decide if our California PHP is the right program for you or if you are better suited for another level of care at our facility. Some of the patients in our partial hospitalization program also transition into this program after successfully completing a higher level of care, like our residential addiction treatment program.

Our PHP drug rehab offers patients 24-hour support and care as they spend most of their days in therapies for substance abuse and reside in a sober living facility at night.

Programming takes place 5 to 7 days a week for 8 hours a day. They consist of everything from individual counseling with a designated therapist to group therapy programs led by a licensed professional who is trained in the specific subject matter. Patients may do everything from participating in expressive arts therapy to attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. These programs are designed to address the underlying psychological causes of addiction so that patients can reduce the risk of relapse. Patients with co-occurring mental health disorders will be placed in our dual diagnosis program to help them address these problems.

During their free time, patients are also encouraged to attend meetings offsite of our PHP rehab when available and join in on alternative holistic therapies such as yoga, exercising, swimming, and hiking in the nearby Joshua Tree National Park. These recreational activities also help patients start building a healthy routine that they can carry over to their everyday life after treatment is over.

At night, patients can rest assured that they remain on the right path as they stay in a sober living facility. These residences provide a controlled and supervised environment for patients to retire to after a long day of treatment, rather than returning home where drug triggers are high. A housing manager will be onsite to provide 24-supervision and enforce the rules of the community. Patients will also have the added benefit of being surrounded by peers who are going through similar situations and who can help hold them accountable for their recovery.

The Benefits of Partial Hospitalization Programs

It makes sense that there will be some patients who need more attention than a regular outpatient program can provide but may not be able to commit to full-time residential programming. By providing a program that meets these individuals where they are in their addiction, we give them that much better of a chance at overcoming it.

Other partial hospitalization program benefits include:

  • An easier transition: For some people, the transition between full-time care and regular life can be overwhelming. This program seeks to bridge that gap and help patients readjust to their lives in a way that is cohesive with their recovery.
  • Flexible scheduling: Because this program operates with limited hours, it gives participants the opportunity to attend to personal responsibilities outside of treatment. This can include obligations regarding work, school, family, and more.
  • Less expensive: A PHP will typically cost less than a full-time residential program. This makes it a far more accessible option for those unable to afford inpatient treatment. It also provides a similar level of intensity that ensures patients get a bang for their buck.
  • Avoiding relapse: Perhaps one of the scariest parts about completing rehab is the prospect of relapsing on one’s own. This program provides those extra pillars of support for people who may feel unsteady in the lessons they have just learned.
