Levels of Addiction Treatment
Many rehab centers utilize a continuum of care for substance use disorders, meaning clients enter treatment at the level of care that best suits their needs. Then, clients can progress to other levels as they progress and require more changes in their care. Levels of addiction treatment refer to the intensity of services that are required to diagnose and treat a condition, such as a substance use disorder. Our drug rehab in Sebring, FL, offers various levels of treatment for addiction that can help you or someone you care about achieve long-term sobriety.
Our Substance Abuse Levels of Care
While every rehab center has its approach, our Highlands County drug rehab follows the levels of treatment as outlined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to ensure our clients receive the exact form of care they need. Outlining these stages of care is also important for commercial insurance providers and other stakeholders.
Generally, the various levels of care for substance abuse treatment start with the most intense form and work their way up, or should we say “down,” in intensity. For instance, a patient with an opioid use disorder might begin their care at the level of medically assisted detox, inpatient care, etc. The levels of addiction treatment offered at our Sebring drug rehab include medical detox, residential or inpatient treatment, and residential treatment for mental health.
Medically Supervised Detox
Medical detoxification is the first level of care in most of our Banyan rehab locations. It’s crucial in safely helping clients withdraw from drugs and alcohol. Otherwise referred to as withdrawal treatment or management, medical detox is for people with severe substance use disorders who require medical assistance and stabilization.
In most cases, patients are experiencing withdrawal symptoms due to physical dependency. This occurs when a person drinks alcohol or takes drugs frequently and heavily enough to where their body can’t function normally without them. During our medical detox in Sebring, clients receive 24-hour medical care, medication (as needed), and counseling to overcome withdrawals, drug cravings, and other challenges.
Detox is an important step in the recovery process because it ensures the individual’s safety (unlike cold-turkey methods) and increases their chances of completing treatment and avoiding relapse. This level of treatment for addiction also makes it easier for patients to move forward in recovery when they’re ready.
Residential/Inpatient Treatment
Services and settings range in intensity for residential and inpatient programs. As the name suggests, clients in our residential program live on-site, meaning they’re offered 24-hour care and supervision away from distractions that could deter their recovery at home. The program length ranges from 30 to 90 days.
Days in residential treatment are scheduled with activities, therapy, medical care, counseling, and minimal free time. Inpatient care is best suited for clients who have completed medical detox and do not require medical stabilization. Additionally, clients may require inpatient care if their withdrawal symptoms aren’t properly managed or if they’ve had previous unsuccessful rehabilitation attempts.
Mental Health Residential
As with our residential addiction treatment, our mental health residential program follows the same curriculum in terms of inpatient care. This form of care is best suited for individuals who have had failed attempts at mental illness treatment or recovery or those who require 24-hour care and support while they learn how to manage their symptoms.
Additionally, because suicidal thoughts, behaviors, and attempts are common symptoms of mental illness, residential care ensures that patients are constantly cared for and supervised to ensure their safety. We want to give every single one of our clients a fighting chance at a happy and healthy life.

There is no “one size fits all” approach for addiction or mental health treatment, which is why one mental health or addiction level of care may not be suitable for everyone. There is no standard timeline for recovery, nor are any two people the same. For these reasons, it’s important that people with substance use and mental health disorders have access to the level of care that fulfills their needs.
Most clients with drug addictions or mental disorders require care on a continual basis. Our levels of addiction treatment provide flexibility and guidance to clients through their recovery journeys. We leave no stone unturned.
