Veterans in Recovery is a veterans drug rehab that offers addiction treatment services that cater to servicemen and women. As a Delaware rehab center for addiction, Banyan Treatment Centers understands the crucial need for drug rehab programs for veterans that are led by a team that understands their unique needs and offers comprehensive treatment. Many individuals who have been deployed have firsthand experience with trauma and currently suffer from drug and alcohol abuse. For many veterans, substance abuse is their go-to way of coping with past traumatic experiences and other struggles they’ve faced in and outside of the line of duty. Banyan is proud to offer our Veterans addiction treatment center in Milford, Delaware, as an additional form of recovery for men and women who have fought hard for our nation.

Veteran Addiction Statistics

Veterans make up a significant percentage of the population, and it is essential to effectively support and care for them by understanding their experiences with substance use and mental health. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) provides important information about how common addiction and related problems are among veterans.1 This study clarifies the difficulties that veterans encounter and emphasizes the significance of attending to their particular needs.

According to the data:

  • 6.2% (1.3 million) veterans lived with a substance use disorder.
  • 1 in 4 consumed illicit drugs (26.9%).
  • 4 in 5 excessively abused alcohol (80.8%).
  • 1 in 3 struggled with multiple forms of substance abuse (7.7%).
  • Marijuana is the most frequently abused drug amongst this population (2.6 million).
  • The highest percentage of veterans acknowledge Oxycodone as the opioid they abuse.

These statistics only highlight a small portion of the far-reaching damage that this disease can have on our veterans. A special type of consideration must be afforded to address these concerns. The things that these men and women have experienced can have a profound impact that is unique to this community. That is why drug and alcohol treatment for veterans should be conducted with these experiences in mind, something our Delaware drug rehab prides itself on being able to provide.

Veteran Substance Abuse Treatment

An alarmingly large portion of veterans suffer from some form of substance use disorder. Whether it’s drugs or alcohol, addiction can ruin a person’s ability to sustain healthy relationships with their loved ones, keep a job, and fulfill basic tasks. What many fail to realize is that addiction is not a choice but rather a disease. Once a person becomes entirely dependent on drugs or alcohol, they’re no longer able to control their use of these substances without help. While all individuals with addictions require and deserve individualized treatment, our facility takes it one step further for veterans.

In addition to addiction, retired military personnel often suffer from mental illness and other disorders that can further encourage substance abuse. For instance, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may use drugs to cope with their symptoms. Veterans with permanent injuries or limb amputations may drink or abuse drugs because they’re upset or ashamed. While there’s a long list of reasons why veterans use drugs and alcohol, we have an equally long list of treatments that can help.

Medical Detox

Our drug treatment for veterans usually begins with our medically monitored detox in Delaware. Medical detox is led by the medical staff at our facility and includes medical administration, as needed, to assist veterans in physical recovery from withdrawal symptoms. Common withdrawal symptoms include headaches, nausea, vomiting, drug cravings, sweating, chills, and more. Withdrawals occur when people addicted to drugs or alcohol reduce their intake of these substances or stop using them completely.

For many, withdrawal symptoms are uncomfortable and painful enough to discourage continued recovery. Without formal medical detox treatment, the likelihood of veterans’ continued recovery is greatly reduced. Withdrawal symptoms from substances like alcohol and opioids can be especially life-threatening. The dangers of withdrawal symptoms provide all the more reason to prevent any complications by undergoing a drug detox that’s medically assisted and held in a safe environment.
We offer detox programs for substances like:

  • Alcohol
  • Benzodiazepines (benzos)
  • Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Methamphetamine (meth)
  • Opiates
  • Prescription drugs

Residential Addiction Treatment

At Banyan Delaware, we also offer inpatient rehab for veterans. An inpatient rehab, also referred to as residential drug treatment or residential addiction treatment, offers treatment for drug and alcohol addictions in our facility. Participants live in our facility for the duration of their veteran rehab programs to offer them as much guidance and support as they need. Residential treatment is especially suitable for those who have severe substance use disorders. By living at our facility, veterans can avoid any distractions at home that can make recovery more difficult or less likely to be completed. These individuals will also recover with the comfort of knowing that help is available whenever they need it.

To address underlying issues and encourage recovery, our comprehensive approach to veteran treatment includes evidence-based therapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused therapy. We also provide a variety of holistic and alternative therapies, like yoga, art therapy, and mindfulness exercises, to help veterans on their path to recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our veteran’s rehab center also offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP), a variation of outpatient drug treatment. A PHP for drug treatment allows veterans to receive addiction treatment part-time at our facility and return home or to a sober living facility at the end of the day. Usually, clients undergo treatment for several hours several times a week, after which they're able to return home to their families. PHP treatment is a great substance abuse treatment option because it allows participants to keep up with their treatment while spending time with family and maintaining their schoolwork or jobs. This program's flexibility also helps veterans slowly transition back into everyday life and much-needed support following deployment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is another one of our veteran substance abuse programs offered at our Delaware drug rehab. An IOP is a type of rehab program for addictions and other disorders that do not require detoxification or round-the-clock supervision. Our IOP enables clients to go about their day-to-day activities while still receiving the care and support they need to get sober and stay sober. Whereas residential treatment requires participants to live onsite, an intensive outpatient program allows veterans to go home. IOP is often used in conjunction with other inpatient drug programs to ensure that veterans at our facility are able to transition seamlessly into their daily routines.

Our rehab for veterans in Delaware offers drug treatment programs for substances like alcohol, benzos, cocaine,  heroin, meth, opiates, and prescription drugs. We also offer supplemental recovery programs like our 12-Step Program and Alumni Program to ensure that our veterans receive continued care after they’ve completed their treatment.

We know that you’ll have plenty of questions to ask when choosing a rehab, and we can help you find the right veteran’s addiction treatment center for yourself or a loved one.
