This year had a rocky start for Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.
The reality star spent the first 8 months of 2019 in federal prison as a part of a plea deal for his tax evasion charges, but the star was released in September after serving his time. Since his troubles, Sorrentino has realized the importance of recovery, getting sober and even showcasing that sobriety on a season of Jersey Shore Family Reunion.
Today, Mike “The Situation” is clean and sober, and he’s more than just one of The Sober Guys on Jersey Shore. He’s our newest Recovery Advocate at Banyan Treatment Centers, helping destigmatize the struggles of addiction and support those in recovery.
The Importance of The Situation’s Sobriety
So, what got The Situation sober? Like many people in recovery, The Situation struggled with getting and staying sober. Things can be especially tough for someone who is part of the Jersey Shore cast, a group that grew to stardom for their reality show that featured ever-flowing alcohol. But, even in the face of societal pressures and looming legal troubles, The Situation got sober and he stayed sober.
He has been making news following his prison release not only because of his fame but also because of his commitment to recovery. At such a trying juncture in his life, The Situation stuck to his sobriety.

In addition to visiting one of our rehab facilities to support our patients, the reality star and sobriety advocate is sharing his recovery story for all to see. He advocated for sobriety on episodes of Jersey Shore Family Vacation and he continues to destigmatize recovery by sharing posts and stories about recovery on his Instagram page.
The Situation shared a favorite recovery quote on Instagram in support of his new role with our team, “Your current Situation is not your final destination. We do Recover.”
