Deciding that you or a loved one has an addiction problem with drugs or alcohol is a big step.
The next step is to find the right program at a drug and alcohol treatment center for you. At Banyan Chicago, we understand that this process is difficult and often overwhelming. What do all of those letters stand for? What is the difference between PHP and IOP? Which program will work best? Because we offer both PHP and IOP services at our treatment centers in Illinois, our team is here to explain the difference between the two and help you get a better idea of which program will be the most successful for your or your loved one.
PHP Treatment
A PHP, or a partial hospitalization program, is a form of substance abuse treatment that combines both structure and freedom. Although patients have the freedom to return home for the evening, patients will be immersed in the recovery environment for a large portion of their week. At our PHP treatment in Illinois, our patients participate in at least 25 hours a week of various treatment programs and therapies. Although our patients will most likely spend part of their day at our alcohol and drug rehab center, they will also have some ability to work around their own schedules.
IOP Treatment
An IOP, or intensive outpatient program for substance abuse, is less intense than a PHP. An IOP is better for someone who is further along in the recovery process with a good support system already in place as it involves much less structure. It may focus more on relapse prevention and returning to your normal routine. At Banyan Treatment Center Chicago, we only require nine hours minimum from our patients enrolled in our IOP.
