Marijuana Dabs

Marijuana Dabs

Marijuana, also known as weed or pot, is a mixture of dried flowers from a plant called Cannabis sativa.

After alcohol, marijuana is one of the most commonly used substances in the U.S., and dabbing is especially common amongst young adults. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than 11.8 million young adults stated that they used marijuana in the past year.1 The main ingredient of marijuana is a psychoactive chemical called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which causes mind-altering effects in its users. In addition to THC, weed also contains other chemicals, including cannabinoids, that can intensify the effects of THC.

At our rehab center in Pompano, we provide effective addiction treatments to help alleviate the withdrawal symptoms and effects of substance abuse. Our patients can recover from their addiction with the help of our treatments and trained staff.

What Is A Marijuana Dab?

Marijuana dabs are small blobs of marijuana concentrate that are packed into a dab pen and smoked. These concentrations of cannabis are usually stronger than other forms of marijuana. People will use dabs not only because it produces more intense side effects, but also to smoke marijuana with a cleaner taste. Butane hash oil is a common example of marijuana dabs that are smoked, especially among teens and young adults. Despite how common dabbing is, it is neither safe nor healthy. THC is an addictive chemical property of marijuana and can produce harmful side effects and lead to addiction. People who develop an addiction to marijuana because of habits like dabbing can get help in our intensive outpatient program.

Side Effects of Marijuana Use

Short term marijuana use can produce uncomfortable effects that can last for hours, depending on the dose ingested. Dependency can develop as a result of long-term marijuana use, making it difficult for the person to function without it or become sober on their own.

Some side effects of weed include:

  • Impaired senses (vision, hearing, touch, etc.)
  • Disrupted sense of time
  • Mood swings
  • Lack of coordination
  • Impaired motor skills
  • Impaired cognitive functions (thinking or talking)
  • Altered memory
  • Hallucinations
  • Delusions
  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Breathing problems (irritation of the lungs)
  • Increased heart rate
  • Disruption in child development (common in women who smoke while pregnant)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Many individuals believe that because marijuana derives from a plant, it’s meant to be natural and healthy. However, dabbing is a dangerous habit because marijuana dabs contain harmful and addictive concentrations of cannabis. It’s common for individuals who smoke weed to develop mental health problems as well, like anxiety or even depression. At Banyan Treatment Centers Pompano, we also provide a mental health program for those who are suffering from the aftermath of cannabis use. We provide a safe and comfortable environment where people can recover from substance abuse and learn how to reach sobriety.
