How to Maintain Sobriety after Treatment
Living with addiction or alcoholism can present many challenges, and some of these challenges don’t go away once a person gets sober. This is because there are many factors which lead to addiction, and certain behaviors, patterns of thinking, or habits can challenge your sobriety. At Banyan Treatment Center Pompano, we offer many services for patients to utilize after drug rehab. Completing rehab doesn’t mean that you’re done when it comes to maintaining your sobriety. As with many goals in life, the goal of prolonged sobriety is one which must be tended to daily. There are some ways you can work to make it easier to maintain sobriety after completing treatment.
Develop a Support System at Home
While you may have had a great support system while in rehab, support systems can be a little harder to form at home. Make sure you have trusted family members or loved ones you can come to with any issues. It’s also important to find a sponsor locally to support your recovery. There are many 12-Step meetings or AA programs across the country, so be sure to connect with these opportunities.
Join an Alumni Program
Our alumni program at Banyan Treatment Center Pompano supports sustained sobriety after drug rehab. The program brings fun into sobriety, with activities such as snorkeling and bowling. Our alumni program includes other individuals who are in recovery, and program members support one another in sustained sobriety.
Get Sober Friends
One of the biggest tips for maintaining sobriety after treatment is changing up your friend group. Chances are, the friends you had when you were using are users too. Spending time with people who are still living with addiction will not help you get sober. Avoid the temptation of old habits by finding sober friends.
Consider a Halfway House
If you’re having trouble getting back into the swing of things, consider living at a halfway house. What are halfway houses? They are sober living communities that offer a good backbone for transitioning back into everyday life while maintaining sobriety. Each house differs, but many have house rules, sobriety support, and additional therapies if needed.
