Getting sober is the best thing you can do for yourself and your future.
Breaking free from drugs and alcohol can be difficult, but professional drug and alcohol treatment can help you reach sobriety. If you are ready to get sober in 2019 but you’re not sure how to get sober or how to stay sober, our professionals at Banyan Treatment Centers are here to help. Here are our tips for getting and staying sober this year and beyond.
When to Enter Treatment
Many people think they need to hit rock bottom before they can start on their journey towards recovery. The truth is, rock bottom looks different for everyone, and you don’t have to wait until your lowest point to get help. If you’re experiencing overdose symptoms, if you’re taking illegal drugs, if things are spiraling out of control, if your addiction has taken over, if you’ve chosen your substance over your family, or if you’ve gotten into legal trouble due to your addiction, it’s time to get help. The best time to enter treatment is now.
How to Get Sober
Now is the best time for you to get treatment. Detoxification is the first step in getting sober. Through medically monitored detox, you can safely work through withdrawals and set yourself up for success. We offer nationwide detox programs to help make detox safe, comfortable, and successful.
Following detox, patients typically enter partial hospitalization or residential treatment programs. During this next step of care, patients participate in therapy and additional counseling to treat the mental health, habitual, and behavioral factors that have contributed to their addiction. Following inpatient treatment, patients may enter outpatient or intensive outpatient programs, depending on their needs. Once the full scope of treatment is completed, patients will be matched with alumni support to help them readjust to everyday life in sobriety.
How to Stay Sober
Getting sober is one thing, but staying sober is another. While many people understand how to get sober, knowing how to stay sober is a different thing entirely. Staying sober relies on relapse prevention that can be offered through alumni recovery programs and specific counseling. Newly sober men and women need to understand their triggers, develop daily game plans for sobriety, and engage in meetings routinely.
