Jamie Lee Curtis Reflects On 22 Years of Sobriety

Jamie Lee Curtis reflects on 22 years of sobriety with an Instagram post to mark the big day.

The actress took to the social media app where she posted a throwback photo of her posing with a bottle of alcohol. In the caption she wrote, “With God’s grace and support of MANY people who could relate to all the ‘feelings’ and a couple of sober angels…I’ve been able to stay sober, one day at a time, for 22 years. I was a high bottom, pun kind of intended, so the rare photo of me proudly drinking in a photo op is very useful to help me remember. To all those struggling and those who are on the path…MY HAND IN YOURS.” We love that Jamie Lee Curtis is open about her past addiction struggles.

During active addiction, Jamie was abusing prescription pain killers and alcohol. Addiction ran in her family, so drug use was “customary”. Jamie Lee Curtis’ substance abuse went on for 10 years until one day, a family friend caught her swallowing 5 Vicodin with wine. It was after that that she started attending recovery meetings and got sober. Knowing how far she’s come only makes her 22 years of sobriety that much more amazing.

We love that Jamie Lee Curtis is so open about her recovery journey. It’s important to talk about the disease of addiction as to spread awareness and to continue to make it less of a taboo subject.

Jamie Lee Curtis’ sobriety is inspiring. On the topic of her recovery she says, “Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment…. bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children and bigger than any work, success, and failure. Anything.” Celebrities are reducing the stigma of addiction and showing that long-term sobriety is possible. In addition to Jamie Lee Curtis, three notable sober advocates are Rob Lowe, Elton John, and Eminem.

Jamie Lee Curtis’ addiction and 22 years of sobriety have inspired many to get the help they need. If you or anyone you know is struggling with the disease of addiction, recovery is possible, and we can help!
