On Wednesday’s premiere of the 15^th season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Braunwyn Windham-Burke announced she was an alcoholic.

Throughout the show in the past, her heavy drinking was a topic that was brought up frequently with co-stars.

On the premiere, Braunwyn said, “I don’t know if it’s divine intervention. I don’t know. But for the first time in my life, I can say, ‘My name is Braunwyn and I’m an alcoholic.’” Braunwyn’s alcoholism was so bad that at one point, she didn’t stop drinking for four days during a trip to Miami. She says that she had to take a shot every hour in order to stop the shakes. It seems like Braunwyn showed signs of alcohol withdrawal. She went on to say, “I was drinking so much, I was scared I was gonna die.” After watching herself on TV, she realized that things needed to change.

Braunwyn Windham-Burke’s Sobriety

The journey to sobriety isn’t always easy. During the first stages of Windham-Burke’s sobriety, she said that she was “scared she wasn’t going to be fun anymore” and that her life was going to be boring. Despite her worries, the 42-year-old says that she is having way more fun now. As of today, Braunwyn is 260 days sober!

Some might have been shocked when Windham-Burke announced she was an alcoholic, but we are so happy that Braunwyn received alcohol addiction treatment and took the steps to make a change in her life. Now that Braunwyn is 9 months sober, she is able to live a happy and healthy life in recovery.
