The Bachelor’s Kaitlyn Bristowe Opens Up About Valium Addiction

The Bachelor’s Kaitlyn Bristowe Opens Up About Valium Addiction

You may remember Kaitlyn Bristowe from ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

Since the show, her career has skyrocketed and she has taken full advantage of the spotlight. She has her own line of hair scrunchies as well as wine and has toured around the United States for live editions of her podcast, Off The Vine. Not only is she rocking the business scene, but also her personal life seems to be one to admire. The former Bachelorette is dating fellow Bachelor alum and fan favorite Jason Tartick. The two live together in Nashville along with their two golden retriever rescues and of course Instagram stars, Pinot and Ramen.

While her life looks great from the outside, now the reality star is detailing the dark time she had before the shows and her battles with depression. Both ultimately lead to Kaitlyn’s addiction to Valium.

It all started when Kaitlyn was in her 20s and had just moved to Germany with her hockey player boyfriend at the time since he was being signed to a team there. Her boyfriend had pointed out how severe her mental health issues were, and they ended their relationship.  Kaitlyn had felt she lost who she was and didn’t have a passion for anything, so she made the decision to move back home with her family. It was then that she went to seek treatment for depression. Kaitlyn says that when she had gone to the doctors, she felt like she “had nothing left”. She had told the doctor that she had given up on her hopes and dreams and her doctor decided to prescribe her antidepressants and Valium.

Everything seemed to be going okay in the beginning when Bristowe was taking Valium, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. She claims, "It made me numb. I didn't feel anything. I got to sleep. I got to not feel my feelings." This is when Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Valium addiction started. Her behavior became alarming and she lost weight to the point where she weighed only 93 pounds; her family finally had to step in. It’s been 7 years, and Kaitlyn can say that she has come out of that dark moment. Kaitlyn shared this piece of advice to her viewers, "I always think if I could go back to my 27-year-old self and talk to her I would say, 'You can't let anyone be responsible for your own happiness. That is up to you.' Now I can say that because I am in a loving fulfilling happy relationship.

Kaitlyn Bristowe’s addiction to Valium and mental health problems are proof that these problems do not discriminate. We are glad that Kaitlyn was able to figure out why she started to abuse it and that she’s finally in a good place in her life. If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to Valium or depression, there is help. Recovery and sobriety are possible.
