Celebrity Sober Advocates Are Speaking Out

Celebrity Sober Advocates Are Speaking Out

Whether their singing talents move people to tears or they made it big on a reality T.V. show, our society is obsessed with celebrities.

While some take advantage of the perks that come with fame, others are using the spotlight as a platform to discuss important issues.

How Celebrities Promote Sobriety

While some people may accuse celebrities of promoting a carefree and sometimes irresponsible lifestyle, several celebrities are taking a different approach and speaking up about getting sober.

For many years, there has been a stigma behind going to rehab for a substance abuse disorder, especially when it comes to celebrities. In more recent years, celebrities have started to break down this stigma by speaking up about their addictions and sobriety. Social media has been a large factor in this journey as it gives celebrities the ability to easily and regularly share their stories.

Because celebrities are often looked up to, these celebrity sober advocates are not only helping to break the stigma surrounding addiction but may also be encouraging others to get substance abuse treatment. Some people may be hesitant to get professional help, but seeing their favorite celebrity promoting sobriety on Instagram may be the inspiration they need to take action for themselves.

Celebrities Who Are Sober Advocates

There are never-ending stories about celebrities in rehab, but beyond these juicy gossip stories, there are several tales of stars who made it through rehab and are now celebrity sober advocates. The following celebrities are advocating sobriety and sharing their own addiction stories with the public.

Mike “The Situation”

Known for his party days on the hit show, Jersey Shore, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has turned a new leaf. After an addiction to painkillers, he was able to get sober and find strength with his wife, Lauren Sorrentino, whose brother lost his life to a drug overdose. Now Lauren and Mike “The Situation” are helping others get sober alongside our team at Banyan Treatment Centers.

Demi Lovato

Among the celebrities advocating sobriety, Demi Lovato has also been open about her mental health struggles over the years as well. Another Disney Channel star who went to rehab, Demi was thrust into the spotlight, and her mental health suffered. She turned to drugs and alcohol to cope before finally getting sober. She debuted a new song about her addiction struggles at the Grammy’s and has been transparent about her sobriety journey.

Brad Pitt

Starring in numerous big films, Brad Pitt has become an A-list actor, but this fame came with a price. Pitt struggled with substance abuse problems. After Jolie filed for divorce, the actor began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and is now sober. He credits part of his ability to get sober to actor Bradley Cooper; the two have become celebrity sober advocates who have publicly shared their stories.1

Brandon Novak

Skating his way into fame and onto our screens with shows on MTV, Brandon Novak struggled with an addiction to heroin before he got sober. Now several years sober, Novak is the best-selling author of a book that details his addiction and how he was able to pick himself back up.  Brandon Novak’s recovery is a good lesson for all that when you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up.

If these celebrities can get sober, so can you. With programming ranging from detox to outpatient programs for addiction, we want to help you or your loved one through every step of the sobriety journey.
