Sober Labor Day

Sober Labor Day

Labor Day is here, and the days of summer are winding down. It is the last big hoorah as well as the last day off work before Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, some people will get out of hand and make poor decisions while impaired. In fact, Labor Day is one of the deadliest times for car accidents from drunk drivers.2 At Banyan Pompano, we wish you a safe, happy, and sober Labor Day weekend, but we know that trying to spend any holiday weekend without drinking or relapsing can be difficult for recovering addicts. To help, our Pompano addiction treatment center is giving you a few tips to celebrate the holiday without relapsing.

How to Spend Labor Day Sober

While many people will choose to spend their Labor Day drinking, you don’t have to drink or do drugs to have fun this holiday. Follow our guidelines for Labor Day sober that you will not forget.

  • Go for A Trip. With that three-day weekend, you have some time to get away. Especially, if you are just getting back from a Florida PHP or other treatment program, it may be helpful to go somewhere that will be less tempting and could help you avoid some drug triggers.
  • Plan A Party. Invite people from your alcohol addiction treatment program as well as other trusted friends or family members for a fun gathering. Focus on decorations, activities, and food, instead of drinks. Being the host or hostess could be a welcome distraction.
  • Bring Your Own Drinks. If you are invited to a party that day, you can still spend your Labor Day sober. Bring your own drinks so you are not tempted and in case the selection of non-alcoholic drinks is limited. You can even make a special mocktail to celebrate the holiday.
  • Go to An Event in Your Area. Instead of spending the holiday at a wild party surrounded by drug triggers and fear of relapse, you could go to a family-friendly event in the area. You will be less tempted to drink or do drugs in this setting. Chances are, there will be some kind of event like a parade or a fireworks spectacle.
  • Surround Yourself with the Right People. Make sure you set yourself up for success by spending time with the right people. The people who you used to do drugs and drink with are probably best avoided. Instead, reach out to people from recovery and other people who know you are in recovery.
  • If you follow our advice, you can have a fun and sober Labor Day. Nobody is perfect, if you do relapse, it is not the end of the world so long as you get help immediately. Our stabilization program in Pompano is designed to help people who relapse get back on track.
