Alcohol Awareness Month

april is alcohol awareness month

In 2015, it was estimated that 15.1 million adults in the United States suffer from Alcohol Use Disorder, and each year 88,000 Americans die from alcohol-related causes, the third leading preventable cause of death in the country. [1]

As a drug and alcohol rehab center in Philadelphia, we find these numbers to be striking and know just how impactful alcohol abuse can be on the lives of the alcoholic and their loved ones.

Alcohol Awareness Month 2019

Luckily, there is hope. April is Alcohol Awareness Month. Founded by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence in 1987, Alcohol Awareness Month is meant to increase public awareness and education about the dangers of alcohol abuse as well as the help available for people struggling with an alcohol addiction. At Banyan, we, too, will be observing this holiday and encourage anyone suffering from alcoholism to take part in our drug and alcohol treatment in Philadelphia.

From binge-drinking high schoolers to alcoholic Baby Boomers, people of all different ages can succumb to alcoholism, and it is not just the alcoholics themselves who are affected. Drunken accidents, physical abuse brought about from drinking, relationships torn apart from alcoholism, personality changes from drinking too much, and drunk driving all affect more than just the person who had too much to drink. At our addiction treatment center in Philadelphia, we encourage you to take this month to think about everyone affected by alcoholism either directly or indirectly.

If you are sober and have overcome your alcoholism, you should be proud and give yourself a pat on the back. Use April to remind yourself why your life is better without it and continue to live a life free from alcohol. If you are just starting the recovery process, Alcohol Awareness Month can be your encouragement to keep going and learn how to overcome an alcohol addiction once and for all.
