When negative thought patterns are controlling your behaviors and perceptions of the world, finding or sticking to sobriety can be difficult. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a treatment approach we incorporate within our addiction treatment programs to help patients gain better control of their negative thought patterns and associated behaviors.
CBT is a psychotherapy approach that uses one-on-one discussions to address negative thought patterns with the goal of helping patients gain control of these thoughts. When patients are able to control negative thoughts, they can address the negative behaviors and improve their lives.
During a CBT session, the therapist will sit with the patient individually and help the patient identify negative thought patterns. Then, they will identify techniques for reversing the negative thoughts. With greater power to put an end to negative thoughts, CBT patients are able to forge a new path of positivity and greater self-control.
There are many benefits to cognitive behavioral therapy, including better control of emotions, improved self-confidence, easier relaxation, and overall improved well-being. We utilize CBT in conjunction with additional mental health and substance abuse treatments, helping patients address all aspects of their substance use disorder.
If you or someone you love needs guidance in overcoming substance abuse, mental health disorders, negative thought patterns, or other challenges, CBT can help.
