How to Have Fun at Holiday Parties While Sober

How to Have Fun at Holiday Parties While Sober

The holiday season is here, and with it comes plenty of parties and events. It is possible to stay sober at parties while having fun – yes, even on New Year’s Eve

At Banyan Treatment Centers, we believe that proper planning is the key to staying sober and partying without alcohol. Here are tips from our drug and alcohol treatment center on having fun at holiday parties without drugs or alcohol.

Tips for Partying Sober Over the Holidays

Whether you’re attending a sober holiday party or one with alcohol, you can stick to a sober path. To stay sober at parties, you need to properly plan for any challenges. The treatment professionals at our drug and alcohol treatment center recommend that you:

  • Keep a soda in your hand. To avoid any awkward situations, keep a soft drink or sparkling water in your hand at all times. This way, partygoers will be less tempted to offer you alcohol, as they’ll see you already have a beverage in your hand. While yours is non-alcoholic, you won’t have to explain this if you’re not comfortable doing so.
  • Focus on those around you. A fun party isn’t about drinking, it’s about enjoying time with those around you. Focus on fostering true connections and conversations and you’ll be the life of the party.
  • Play cheesy holiday games. There are plenty of cheesy holiday games that are still fun for all ages. Whether you wholeheartedly love these games, or you’re playing along with some laughs, these classic and somewhat cheesy holiday games are always fun icebreakers.

Members of our alumni recovery program agree that sobriety is possible, even during the holidays. Without drugs or alcohol in the way, you can finally focus on the true togetherness of the holiday season.
