Laura: A Story of Recovery
Hello Everyone, My name is Laura and I am a grateful recovering addict. In August 2014 I came down to Florida to get help for my addiction. I now have over 2 years clean and the gift of recovery is a priceless gift. When I got to Florida I was completely broken and hopeless. Although I did not do an inpatient treatment at Banyan I did do their intensive outpatient program. For Banyan I am forever grateful. My experience at Banyan was memorable because it is a place where people truly cared.
During my stay at Banyan, I learned how to become a productive member society and learned how to live life on life’s terms. I enjoyed groups because I got to share with people who I feel like I’ve known for forever. Most of these people I am still friends with to this day. Lastly, I am currently a staff member at Banyan because I love what I do and I want to give back to a treatment center that saved my life. My life today is a life beyond my wildest dreams. My life today consists of getting ready for work, relaxing, eating dinner, and going to meetings.
Today I can enjoy the simple things in life. Never in a million years would I think I would be where I am at today. I took all of the suggestions: go to meetings, get a sponsor, work steps, and get a job. I never become complacent. Recovery is my life because without it I have nothing. I would like to thank Banyan Treatment Center for being filled with such love and compassion for the next struggling addict.
