My name is Zack and I am from Chattanooga, TN. I moved to South Florida in March of 2015 to begin my journey of recovery and have been working at Banyan for just under one year. I started working as a Behavioral Health Technician, and then moved to working as an Intake Counselor.
As a BHT one of the greatest things I enjoyed was seeing the transformation that clients would make both physically in appearance as well as in their attitude in becoming willing to change. Another aspect about being a BHT that I enjoyed was going on the outings with the clients. Banyan believes that there has to be fun in sobriety as well as working through difficult situations and addiction. It was a great experience being able to laugh with the clients who I know were going through dark times and being able to find the levity in tough situations.
As an Intake Counselor what I enjoyed most was being able to be the first person that the clients met when they came in the door at Banyan. Because of my own struggles I was able to relate to them on a very personal level and let them know that the fear and anxiety they had about coming into a facility where they did not know anyone would soon subside. A few months later, I was promoted from working in Intake to working in Banyan’s Call Center. I love the people that I work with and we are able to help so many people on a daily basis. We all enjoy being able to share what we have been through to someone that is struggling with addiction and realizing that treatment is the best option. Meeting the clients that I have worked with and have come to Banyan is one of the best experiences I have ever had. I get to see the light turn back on in someone’s eyes.
Working in different areas of Banyan has made me realize how fortunate I am to work for such a great facility. The people that are in every department are beyond passionate about what they do for a living and care so much about the clients. I am so lucky to work for such an amazing company and be a part of helping people recover from a seemingly hopeless position.
