Banyan Treatment Center has always believed in compassion for substance addictions and the proper medical treatment of such conditions, rather than the harsh criminal punishments that often accompany a serious drug addiction.
Our efforts in the recovery community have always been centered around getting treatment to the people who need it most. With that spirit in mind, we are proud to be a part of The Safe Passage Initiative: Police Giving Hope to Addicts Through the Tools for Recovery, an addiction recovery program put together by the Dixon Police and the Lee County Sheriff's Department in Dixon, Illinois. Modeled after the inspirational ANGEL Program in Gloucester, Massachusetts, the Safe Passage Initiative aims to encourage addicts to seek police assistance when struggling with a serious drug addiction. In return for this trust, the officers of both law enforcement departments will make sure the addict asking for help is transported safely here to Banyan Treatment Center in Pompano Beach, Florida, where our expert staff of physicians and addiction counselors will provide the proper care and treatment the addict sorely needs.
Addiction is a Community Issue and Affects Us All
When Banyan learned of the brave and noble efforts of these exemplary law enforcement agencies, we were eager to offer our support and participation. Dixon Police Chief Danny Langloss commented, "As our program grows, the assistance from treatment centers like Banyan will be key to ensuring our efforts are sustainable."
Since the program launched on September 1, 2015, Safe Passage has already guided 12 people from Lee County into treatment facilities, 3 of which are receiving care here at Banyan Treatment Center. Our leader and CEO, Joe Tuttle, comments, "It is truly an honor to be working with Safe Passage and Lee County to change the way we view and treat addiction in our communities."
