Honesty in Sobriety

Setting Groundwork for Sobriety After Drug Rehab

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.

~ Alcoholics Anonymous

So many factors can ride on being successful in sobriety.  Honesty is certainly one of the biggest ones . . . honesty with ourselves and with those involved in our life in any way. Honesty is the principle foundation of the twelve step program and considered by most to be one of the most valuable traits a person can have.

If we can’t be honest with ourselves,

then we can’t possibly be honest with anyone else.

The friendly staff at Banyan Treatment Center understand that it can be difficult to be completely honest in those early days of recovery. It’s only human nature to feel remorse for the bad decisions of our past and shame for the situation you’re in. Admitting to having made those bad choices means having to step up and atone, which includes allowing others to judge us. While that’s never fun, honesty in recovery is necessary in order to heal.

The good news is, that once the far-reaching effects of being honest have been seen, it becomes easier to tell the truth. Honesty can free us of the guilt and shame. By realizing that we’re not so different from one another, it’s easier to believe that we can recover . . . that we will recover.
